WMPS 1210 silent?

Didn't see this listed anywhere else, but WMPS 1210 was off today when I was in town. I am wondering if they were off a few weeks back when I was passing through the area as well.

Another victim of the economy or something else? I kinda miss the nostalgia/standards music.

They've been off for a few days, but they were back on this afternoon.

Being owned by Dr. Flinn likely means they will never be a victim of the bad economy. ;D

I just wish 1210 would use a different service for their programming. The Music of Your Life plays a lot of very unfamiliar "standards" these days. I like this format better when it plays the greatest MOR hits of the 1940s to 1970s.

Tower took a lightning strike - fried a TON of stuff. Should be back up now.

Ok, so then they're not silent........yet.

I can't really recall when one of Flinn's station actually went 'silent' - in fact, 1210 is a personal fav of Doc's - so while formats may change on his stations - the power will always remain on.

And did it ever occur to you to - I don't know, perhaps CALL the station to find out why there isn't anything on the radio?

Nope, no sgnal - must be dark - defeatist much are we?

There's one now.

KWBF/North Little Rock, a class A went dark recently. According to filings, they "lost" their tower site.

They have an application on-file now to relocate further west, and change the City of License. I am not quite sure why all that is necessary, though.

You are either very thorough, or very bored -- either way it's kind of scary. While I don't have any specifics about KWBF - I was actually refering to the Memphis stations.

A hobby might be in order for you, perhaps macramé.

Basically, the new proposed site doesn't put a 70 dBu signal contour over all of North Little Rock. So, they have to find a new COL. It looks like they're trying to relocate to the tower farm on Chenal Ridge.

It's hard to call the station when it's after business hours. That's when I heard them off the air. Anyway my experience with calling stations has been a mixed bag. IF (and that's a big IF) anyone is ever there, they're as often as not unhelpful and uninformative. To be fair, though, I've never tried calling or visiting any Memphis stations. Maybe things are different here?

Radio-locator.com does not list them as being off the air.

R-locator has a LOT of inaccurate information. I've submitted more format changes than you could shake a stick at and I don't think a single one has ever gone through. And yet some stations show a new format the day it happens. Go figure.

This is my hobby -- there is nothing like wading through public filings!

And, yes. I am scary.

Had to do some checking on this one, and here's the scoop.

KWBF has been on the air at 500-watts, from the Flinn Maumelle, AR,
site, since it left its previous tower site in N. Little Rock. Its
running a 'pure' Pig Format, and actually got some press in the
Little Rock papers [they even called Chris Taylor from Flinn's
Q1075 in Memphis].

;D

I once tried actually visiting a station that I had formerly worked for, once when passing through the town where they are located. It was during "normal business hours" on a weekday, but the doors were locked, and no one was there! I looked inside the door, and even saw that they had area maps on a counter in there! I would have liked to have had one, but alas, no one was there! ::)

Keep in mind that it had been nearly 10 years since I worked for that station, and they were off the air there for a couple of years in between, so I knew that there would be no one there who would remember me. I was aware that they were voice-tracked at the time I tried to stop by, but I still figured that someone would be in the office on a weekday afternoon! ::) Guess not!
