WMQX Voice talent - question

Could somebody help me out here?

I've been wondering, who was the VO talent for WMQX in Greensboro from sometime in late 2003-2004? until its flip or around then? Can't begin to think who. He has a pretty deep, warm sounding voice...same voice was used at WXLY in Charleston when they were transitioning in to "classic hits" (before AC) in 2006-early 2007. Could somebody answer?

Thanks!

Paul Dixon was the station voice during my 2 tenures as PD and I think through Dave's tenure as well. At some point Randall C. Bliss (my old friend and morning show partner in Norfolk) made the change was made to Chris Eric Stevens. Gary was the Production Director for many years, hired by me in '94 or '95. Dave is doing some great voice work now but was not the station voice then. Jim Merkle was the station voice before 1994, during the Oldies 93.Fun days.

It was most defiantintly JJ "Hitman" McKay from Ocean City. It's the lock of the week. Check my record.

I agree and Max doesn't know what he is talking about...Chris Eric Stevens from Chi town never did any voice work for that station..I just talked to him..Right..the old WAIR and Nick Patella would pay ..Right!!!

Never know when you are joking but in case you weren't: the station was at least 2 owners past Nick at the time in question. Moose was there and I think he would know. JMHO, and his too.

thanks guys...though I can't find any demos to confirm, I definately know the "voice in question" was used in 2004. Not 100% sure after, or before...and it was also heard at Y102.5 in Charleston in 2006. Very good one, too, this is bugging me. ha

Book it!! 1993 and earlier - Jim Merkle. 1994 through 1999 or so Paul Dixon. 1999 or so through early 2002 Chris Eric Stevens. 2002 'til Paw back to Paul Dixon.

You know... the station is not behind that old apartment complex anymore. ;) Booby Nash is long gone from there too.

Sorry X-Lax Talker: The real voice behind all the GREAT RADIO VOICE-OVERERS is the fantastic DON MANFIELD. The "Q-Tip could out-produce anything...period.....uh, end of sentence. Just check your old air-checks....and you'll find that the "Q" RULES!!!!

Chad "Cheap Shot" Taylor obviously doesn't understand the question. The question was who was the voice of the station imaging in 2003-2004 (or thereabouts) - not who did the production nor who had the best voice!

...And THAT is Paul Dixon. I've used him at 4 different stations, including WMQX. He does good work.

Now... does anybody a jock in Raleigh that did a bit with the "Old Coach"? I think the same guy also did the "Apex Liquor Store" bit where the drunk lady called in. Hmmm

Thanks Max. Funny that none of these people have professional websites so we could really confirm...haha

Speaking of Jim Merkel, he is a great oldies (and even AC) voice over. He was also heard (in the NC area) at WWMG/Charlotte (in its later days for sure), WNCT/Greenville (no longer) and WFLB/Fayetteville when they were oldies.

Just becasue we are detail guys ::)

Dixon came to MQX in 1997. It was one of the things the 'new PD' did when he started screwing around with Moose's radio station (grin).

And, I don't know if Merkel was on WWMG. If so, it was at the very end (after my brother Keith, Marty Thompson). If it was done, it was definately after the station went from Dalton to CC.

Love ya like a brother, Moose. I still remember the day you handed me the keys to the office. That was a great little radio station...

Kris Abrams, proud PD former PD that Oldies 93
