WMQX Voice talent - question

Kris Abrams said:
Just becasue we are detail guys ::)

Dixon came to MQX in 1997. It was one of the things the 'new PD' did when he started screwing around with Moose's radio station (grin).

And, I don't know if Merkel was on WWMG. If so, it was at the very end (after my brother Keith, Marty Thompson). If it was done, it was definately after the station went from Dalton to CC.

Love ya like a brother, Moose. I still remember the day you handed me the keys to the office. That was a great little radio station...

Kris Abrams, proud PD former PD that Oldies 93

That new PD did ok!

Hey Kris, First of all it's good to know you are still around. Second, since Christmas time is almost here are you gonna do the White Christmas Promotion this year?

Wow. I allowed myself to forget the 'White Carolina Christmas'. Ah, no we won't be doing that this year out here in Phoenix (grin).

Gotta ask, who is this???

I could have gone the rest of my life without hearing about 'The Titanic Of All Holiday Promotions'. Sounded great - in the end it was a company that sprayed shaving cream all over someone's front yard. Ah, good memories.

I surf through the board from time to time. I look back and smile on the Greensboro days. And, I have to say, its great to be back in the Classic Hits format. You will hear alot of the old MQX in today's sound of KOOL-FM.

You should have asked PD Kris what he is doing on air in PHX, since
oh...the week after Halloween or so. ::)

I'm sure we did until early November, but apparently not again until around
December 26, as the Lincoln Of Little Saint Nick is up on blocks in the KOOL
parking lot. ;)

Other than that (excluding "tomkent-sizing" which I'm sure he had no control
over), Kris has been doing a great job, but I never thought I'd say "I can't
wait to hear Brown Eyed Girl again!" ;D

I talked to JJ "Hitman" McKay and he can neither confirm nor deny anthing we have up on here. I appreciate everybody's help figuring this out.

Not much to confirm, what is up here is fact. It comes from the two guys that (Moose and myself) who signed the contracts from sign-on til 2000. Then, Moose came back for a second dance. Outside of Randy's days at the end, Moose and I had our hands on most of it (the good and the bad...LOL).

And, yes. We did go all Christmas in Phoenix the week after Haloween. We were quite vocal on-air we would go this year - and the station that does it every year decided to hit the panic button and go early. So, we went seconds later. :-[ ??? :-\ But trust me, from the streaming numbers (only gauge til we see ARB numbers) Christmas music is a pretty good place to be right now ;)

All will be right in the world. Although, I have no idea why/how this ended up in this thread. ::)

I still never found out who it waw that made the 'White Christmas' reference. I have a feeling I might know... ;D

I plan to file lawsuits against ANY radio station playing "White Christmas." That's about the most racist holiday tune ever recorded!

OK Kris a hint or two. Did you ever learn anything about NASACR? Do you miss that 3:00 AM train running by your apartment? Did you ever just sit and stare at your newsman with dead air after your newsman had delivered his end clue? Did you ever work with anyone who came from the home town of Harry Folger? By the way, I don't think Harry ever got rid of that car you stuck him with.

NASCAR, yes. Train, no - but it was 3:17A. Stare, yes. Folger, yes. But Chevrolet got rid of Harry.

My guess is this is the same person that called to tell me of Big Paul's passing. Either or it is the sales professional formerly known as flipstick. Find me at [email protected]... (because the rest of the clues you give may not be complimentary or supporting of my imagine as an upstanding, law biding citizen). But, there are others that would know this dirt...hmmm....

Could somebody help me out here?

I've been wondering, who was the VO talent for WMQX in Greensboro from sometime in late 2003-2004? until its flip or around then? Can't begin to think who. He has a pretty deep, warm sounding voice...same voice was used at WXLY in Charleston when they were transitioning in to "classic hits" (before AC) in 2006-early 2007. Could somebody answer?

Thanks!

Paul Dixon was on WXLY when Bill Shannon programmed the station.

I personally don't care for Dixon.

Jeff Laurence, JR Nelson or Charlie Van Dyke for liner VO

And Jeff or Mitch Todd for promos.

Todd used to be the imaging director at WMJI/Cleveland. He's now Director of Creative for Sirius/XM

Hi all,

When I became PD of WMQX, we had the great Paul Dickson as the VO guy. I brought in Billy Moore to take over as main imaging VO talent during my mid-term there. He was also the voice of WSIX in Nashville. I was so excited to put him on the air after producing imaging for about a week, only to have Brian Douglas, PD of 102 Jamz, tell me he thought Billy sounded like he was saying Oldies 93 like "Ooool-dies 93" Even though I thought Billy sounded great, I was very particular with his reads after that...lol.

Of course, this is not the time in question... for me, it was around 1998-2000. But I was there since 96. Back then, Mike Smith was the PD (MaxGM) and he had the station sounding kick-ass with Paul Dickson the whole time.

Forgive me... that's right. Moose had Merkel... then Kris brought in Dickson. Sorry bout that!
