WMRC 1490

Does anyone know about this tiny little radio station in the town of Milford? It has an Adult Contemporary format, with news and talk mixed in. It doesn't have a very powerful signal, but it does play a lot of AC songs that are pretty obscure. I was in that area a few months ago, and I heard the song "(If There Was) Any Other Way" by Celine Dion. My goodness, I haven't heard that song in like 15 years!

So, has anyone ever heard of this station? And what do you think of it?

I've heard it when I've been in the area. It's good they still have some live local content and community service, but their music programming outside of prime hours is via satellite.

I worked in Woonsocket RI for a year back in 1990-91 and it was the best music mix I had heard it a long time. If that is the same music service - I think it was ABC Network - then yes, it is well done. I heard "Walking In Memphis" way ahead of the other stations. I never changed from WMRC all day at work.

Hi
I worked at WMRC for a Week back in the early 70s
And then returned for MORNINGS for a Few months in
the 80s...I just did Ski reports for them this season
Thru Mountain news out of California
GREAT LOCAL STATION!!
I think ED THOMPSON...THE news Director is STILL there???
he has been there for DECADES!
A Super Guy!!
Joe Mc Millan
WNSX/Bangor/Ellsworth Me Mornings
WHDH/OLDIES 103/WROR/WVBF/WATD Also!

I know the station. It's one of the areas GREAT local stations. I try to tune in even when I'm around Natick/Framingham. According to radiolocator, they should be able to reach into Boston (on a weak signal), but sloppy 1510 spills all over them.

I have AM receivers that are selective enough to reject second adjacent bleedover from 1510.

According to the radio-locator maps, the fringe contours of WMRC as well as co-channel WCCM Haverhill just barely graze the Boston/Cambridge area, where I hear both of those stations battling it out with about equal, very weak signals. If I go a few miles west to Newton, WMRC overcomes WCCM, and a few miles north in Somerville WCCM overcomes WMRC, but we're still talking very weak, barely audible reception in all cases.

This is, of course, in the daytime. Once nighttime skywave hits, 1490 is a cacaphony of small AM stations from all over the northeast. You'd have to get much closer to either WMRC or WCCM to hear them over all that background noise at night.
