WMRD missed the EAS test

I flipped to AM about midway through and found satellite-fed talk at 1150, no sign of the "nationwide" test. Any other fails to report? I didn't get to scan the whole dial before it ended.

Another station: KOOL 101. (Hall sister station WKZF in Lancaster, PA did it, though.)

KOOL 101 aired it. I know from your other post on the Boston board that you were listening via the stream. There's no requirement for streams to run EAS, and in many air chains, the audio goes to the stream before the EAS.

A great many stations "missed" the test across the country. I am willing to bet that MRD also has a Burk box the same as WXCT.

The bad audio fed from FEMA had several sets of "duckfarts" in it. This confused many decoders to where they would lock up, mute, or skipped it entirely.

Expect this test to be tried again soon.

That would be a lost bet.
BTW - WCUM has a "Burk box" that worked flawlessly.

@reelyreal: I was listening to both stations online - plus another out of Atlantic City which aired it on their stream - so since "majority ruled" at the time, I was under the impression WKNL did not - but I'll take you at your word. (And frieghtliner can chime in, too.)

I tried to monitor the test on WFSB, WTIC-AM and WESU (it was as many sources as I grabbed at the last minute when I remembered this thing) and the results are:

WFSB worked, it wasn't exactly at 2pm (off by a few seconds due to being via DISH), but was there a hiccup with a repeat message?
WESU was tones only, I heard no message
WTIC-AM started out normal, but then I could swear I heard multiple background refeeds, did anyone else hear this?

It has been determined that FEMA used a regular voice grade telephone conference bridge to the PEP stations across the country (that musta been a hell of a conference call, with well over 50 PEPs). One or more of the participants echoed the audio back at FEMA (anyone who's been on a conference call can attest that this happens more than not). When the audio bounced back, it retriggered many boxes, and then it bounced again and again and again, by the end of the announcement I can hear at least 4 instances.

As the audio trickled down the chain, some boxes passed it as-is, some muted, some went totally brain dead. There are various stories on what box did what, when and it seems to be an issue of software version as well as brand. I heard that the older Sage muted, but some owners of that box say it didn't. So depending on what software rev level and brand of box, and how good the audio was, coupled with how pitch distorted it was by the conference bridge echo, determines what happened where. I doubt we'll ever know exactly what happened.

I posted the EAS test, as received from WDRC-FM on my server at http://www.ka1kjz.com/download/WSAH-20111109-140033465a0.mp3
