WMRI 860 in Marion

Is it me, or is Marion's WMRI 860, a "Music Of Your Life" affiliate, moving away from that format? Sunday morning I heard two songs I classify as oldies, namely "Something" by the Beatles and "You Don't Have To Say You Love Me" by Dusty Springfield. Other stuff they played were standards, fortunately.

During the music breaks, the station still said it was "Music Of Your Life," which makes me believe this possible switch to oldies is a figment of my imagination. Could WMRI be mixing the two formats?

You're too concerned with musical classification. Here is a sample hour of Music of Your life (directly from Music of Your Life Website):

"Come Fly With Me" - Frank Sinatra

"I Left My Heart in San Francisco" - Tony Bennett

"Georgia on My Mind" - Ray Charles

"Evergreen" ("Theme from A Star is Born") - Barbra Streisand

"It Had to Be You" - Harry Connick, Jr.

"Chances Are" - Johnny Mathis

"Unforgettable" - Nat King Cole & Natalie Cole

"April Love" - Pat Boone

"Old Cape Cod" - Patti Page

"Close to You" - The Carpenters

"Mack the Knife" - Bobby Darin

"Moon River" - Andy Williams

"In the Mood" - Glenn Miller

"Can't Help Falling in Love" - Elvis Presley

"Theme From Peter Gunn" - Henry Mancini

"It's Impossible" - Perry Como

"New York, New York" - Frank Sinatra

Pretty much the same stuff we were playing at WTUX before its' demise, along with all the big-band classics. Sounds like maybe they've added some "newer" cuts since then.

I think a song like "Something" isn't something you would associate with "Music For Your Life" but it has an easy feeling to it, which I think works for the format.

However, "Helter Skelter" might be pushing it. :D

WTUX pushed it when they played American Pie. That song played once before it was pulled.

Yeah, the GM there should have been fired over that one. Pretty bold move if you ask me... ;D

The "Music of Your Life's" target demo is moving that way. The high school Class of 1960 can get social security this year. The Class of 1965 (the year after the British Invasion hit) will turn 60. The "oldies" format is in decline and is becoming the Music of Your Life.

that's why I listen to good moyl at night on chwo 740am from toronto.

amr

Taking a look at the sample hour from "Music of Your Life," it looks like most of the songs, except Glenn Miller,
Harry Connick Jr., and MAYBE the Patti Page, could be found in Joel Whitburn's Billboard Top 40 books.
