WMRN Updates

On the drive in this morning, they announced on 106.9 that they would be off the air at 10am and to tune to 94.3. I wonder if they have everything in place for 106.7 or if they are recycling the transmitter and have to move it? I noticed the 106.7 translator was still on this morning.

From what I understand, Curt Tuckerman, the licensee of the 106.7 translator has filed a last minute appeal with the FCC. It is likely that he won't shut down until he absolutely has to.

It's very unlikely that the FCC will stay the demise of his translator since it was licensed as a secondary service subject to this type of move in.

Kurt Tuckerman...WOW. That's a name I haven't heard in a long time.

CC has a construction permit. I thought all the fighting was over at this point?

CC does have a CP and can build... but that don't mean the Translator folks cant still attempt to fight. Though if CC builds and is ready to go on air, they have to sign off.

I would suspect they would start new (exp that CC will likely put IBOC on 106.7). I know in 2000 when I last was up in Marion the transmitter they had at WMRN-FM was an older one (can't remember what they had) so likely they wont retune it and move it, plus for only 7.3kw I am sure they can get something smaller than the WMRN-FM transmitter and something that will likely cost them less in the long run.

Kurt is a man of many talents. He was a guitarist in a great local band, Phantom Limb, that contributed a flexi-disc to one of the issues of my fanzine, The Offense, back in 1981. The Limb was also one of twelve bands that played at a 3-night benefit for the paper that same year at Mr. Brown's. Anyone remember that place?!

I think that one of the biggest obstacles to getting my new show/format on the air here is that most (if not all) of our local radio executives didn't live in Columbus during the '80s. They therefore just assume that its music scene wasn't any different from that of the towns in which they did live, and they program accordingly. There's no research, no surveys, no nothing -- nothing except further staff cutbacks.

According to radio-locater WOSB located at 106.7. WMRN is going to occupied the same spot. What will happen to WOSU FM transmitter?

Yep...it pretty much is...the FCC issued the construction permit, and that means that they were done with it...

Unfortunately, anybody can file a lawsuit, although a smart judge/advocate will realize they don't have jurisdiction. But that hasn't stopped states, like florida for example of creating their own laws.

Kurt might find some legislator who might sympathize with his cause, but that's unlikely, and Clear Channel has their own money and lawyers... It's a waste of time..

and besides, I wouldn't want to have a translator, with a tuned antenna on the same tower that CC's box is on. I suspect that if CC test their transmitter at power, the translators not going to survive anyway <grin>.

They've got the "Buckeye Country 107 has moved to 94.3" message on repeat on 106.9. I wonder if they'll move this weekend?

The morning guy said on the air this morning just before the loop started that they would be shutting down 106.9 "in a day or so" so im guessing that something will happen tomarrow here in columbus. maybe a loop with nothing but OSU marching band music, ok that part was a joke

I am sure Clear Channel will shutdown the Transmitter in the next day or so.. they just want to make it clear to the 106.9 listeners the country has moved (Channel Z did something simular whey they moved the format to 105.7 back in the day after CC sold 98.9 to Blue Chip).

It would be funny if 106.7 signed on stunting with Classical Music :p

still clugging away at the loop saying to tune to 94.3... Wonder when CC will finally light up 106.7!

I wonder if the guy running the 106.7 translator is still trying to hold out or what?

yea it looks like he filed for a stay on the 2nd and CC replied on the 13th, should get resolved really quick, it has been decided but the FCC twice now, hes not telling them anything they don't already know. its funny too hes fighting to keep a rebroadcast of a satellite station that carries WOSU fm. they have a full market signal.

They'll get their signal when they pry it from his cold dead fingers :) Seriously though, he's still pumping out the classical today.

106.7 is still rebroadcasting WOSU's smiucaster 91.1 in Marion... and 106.9 is still running the automated loop of Clear Channel Marion staff saying to "tune to buckeye country 94.3" Clear channel does not seem to be in a hurry.
