WMRN Updates

WMRN-FM will be on the air Thursday, November 29th at noon. No format just stunting.

Is the 106.7 WOSU translator still on the air?? If not, will WMRN-FM still go on the air
with the translator still on the air??

Any idea how long they'll be stunting? I'll be traveling starting Friday afternoon, and I can't miss the "real" debut, so they'll just have to cease stunting before then ;)

I'm sure the translator will be off the air some time tonight. As for stunting...the press release doesn't say.

I'll have it recorded. I have a stream set up so I can listen remotely and it's on archive as well.

And let the format speculation begin in three....two....one...GO! ;D

This is a total hoot!! Gotta admit, it's a rather clever stunt.

"Finally, a station no one can agree on at work or in the car." LOL! Does anyone recall how long 105.7 stunted with the Cheers theme before flipping to the Brew? A horse is a horse, of course, of course, but I hope the opening stunt doesn't portend the arrival of wTVn-FM.

They'll get their signal when they pry it from his cold dead fingers :) Seriously though, he's still pumping out the classical today.

106.7 is still rebroadcasting WOSU's smiucaster 91.1 in Marion... and 106.9 is still running the automated loop of Clear Channel Marion staff saying to "tune to buckeye country 94.3" Clear channel does not seem to be in a hurry.

Dose any one know for sure if the translator on 106.7 did actually sign off the air for good?? The last I was
able to check, at 9:30 AM, they were still on the air. They may have waited to the last
minute if they did indeed sign off at 12 Noon to make way for the sign on of the new
WMRN-FM 106.7.

Aren't they on the same tower so isn't it a matter of whoever is in the building there just pulling a plug?

This is just a wild guess ...... but I'm guessing the owner of the translator basically was exercising appeal rights so he could extract money from CC. CC paid him off and he dropped his appeal.

Just a guess because he had to know the appeals would go nowhere.

Signal seems only so-so. Still getting stereo separation, but there seems to be a little static coming through. I'm in the house so I could just be in a bad spot.

The translator is on the old Channel 6 Dodridge tower. The new signal is on the WOSU TV tower in Westerville. I'll have to check my stream archive, but as of 11am the translator was on with a larger carrier signal cutting it out at times. There also seems to be some static on the new signal.

Maybe CC just decided to say, "screw them" and just turned their signal on. Less than 100 watts drowned out by the equivalent of 20,000 watts until the appeals are exhausted. Maybe just playing hardball?

I'm getting some static indoors at 23 & 270.  As for format speculation, if what started out as Television 106.7 ends up as the "Radio 106.7" approach that several CC stations have adopted lately, I sure hope it's the gold-based Modern AC version 94.1 Cincinnati is using, rather than what, say, Philly has.  The Cincy approach would be very different than anything on Columbus radio current or past, and wouldn't overlap much with the existing CC portfolio.

Whoever thought a 100-watt (or whatever it is) translator could cause so much static along I-70 and wipe out a 20,000-watt signal in and around downtown.

Checking the WMRN-FM FCC Public Notice Comment file, they(Sandyworld) filed a
a Petition for a Stay(SEE BELOW). It looks like CC decided to sign on the air before the case was
resolved with the FCC as they can. Sandyworld owns the translator on 106.7 FM.

It looks like they may be stunting at least until Sandyworld decides to turns off their translator.
WMRN won't have any coverage in the North OSU campus area until the translator is turned
off so they probably won't start the new format until then.

Well, let's do some eliminating. As RadioInsight says, CC bought some domains.

1067jamscolumbus.com-- Very unlikely as CC usually uses "The Beat"
1067jamzcolumbus.com-- Very unlikely as well
1067thebuzz.com-- Could happen... everybody wants a rock-oriented format.. everyone besides me
blink1067.com-- Look above.
fresh1067columbus.com-- Why did they even buy that? CC doesn't even use Fresh.
movin1067columbus.com-- Um, no. CC uses "My" or "The Party"
my1067columbus.com-- Would work, but highly unlikely.
radio1067.com-- It's definite. Go to the domain.. it already has the logo at the bottom.
rumba, snap, and viva1067.com-- Not gonna happen. CC doesn't use it.

It's pretty much radio.. it sucks. I was hoping for Urban/Rhythmic.
