WMRQ to WCCC - IT'S WAR

MarcB said:
Listeners of WCCC started crap with WMRQ on Facebook. WMRQ's owner John Fuller called in at 8:45 this morning and announced they were officially at war with WCCC. The first strike of the war can come at anytime. He mentioned WCCC picked the wrong station to mess with and that WCCC needs to Google Redwolf Broadcasting Vs. Citadel Broadcasting.

The FCC, lawyers, everyone, laughed "Redwolf vs. Citadel" away for what it was - hilarious.

someone just buy 95.9 the fox or 103.9 in westchester. Then its a monopoly. I have no active rock or alternative to listen to in Greenwich. Now back to my ipod no more katy Perry or nikki monage. I can only take so much on the radio. I cannot listen to internet radio or either. It keeps cutting out :(. CCC again I beg you a better internet stream!

Especially seeing how the FCC doesn't concern themselves with "programming matters" on stations, unless they specifically violate the rules.
(i.e. indecent programming, contest rules, phone calls without concent, etc...)

Stations going "at war" with each other, unless they pony up to lawyers, tend to make better stations, as they put more effort into having good stations.

Wow, I agree pretty lame. Radio 104 is hardly a figment of its former self, no edgy rock alternative like they used to play.

And WMRQ-FM's audio, especially in the background, is quite noisy. Ever since they did some work on West Peak some months back, it's never been the same. It's not necessarily their signal, since the other West Peak stations all come in fine. I get a similar effect with their background sound on my personal stereo ("Walkman") as well.

If you live in greenwich, you can surely afford XM or an IPOD-why bother with the stale, safe, boring, overplayed tunes on the airwaves? ;D

Instead of competing against middle of the pack WCCC why doesn't WMRQ flip to country and compete against #1 rated (and #2 PPM Country station in the U.S) WWYZ? Not saying they could beat a heritage station like that but the country slice of the pie in Hartford is now very large.

What they should do is move "Bomba" from the HD2 and 97.1 translator and put it on the main 104.1 signal. Then make the HD2 and 97.1 translator Alternative Rock. That would shake up the AM band. 840 would probably go Polish (or Italian) full-time and 910 could possibly take on the Spanish Variety format currently on their sister station 1230 and they can make 1230 ESPN DePortes.

I remember the days of WIOF country back in the 70's with Rick Shea.Btw where is Rick Shea.I met him back in the early 1980's.I agree Country 92.5 needs some comp with an other high power country station in the hot zone of CT.

People have been talking about what 104.1 "should do" for as long as people have been talking about a country format in NYC. Pure fantasy!

Was WMRQ-FM needs to do is fix their signal. Ever since their transmitter work a few months ago, I've heard nothing but a garbled mess, especially in the background. It's the same thing on both my 9 year old stereo and my Panasonic "Walkman". All of the other West Peak-based stations come in just fine on both receivers.

The antenna's still being worked on. It's up and running, but at reduced ERP. WMRQ has one of the more complicated directional patterns, especially on West Peak. With short-spacing to WBMX, WFAS, WAXQ, and WRCN, there's a lot of protecting that needs to happen.

Are there any major stations running a Spanish format that aren't owned by minority companies? If I'm not mistaken, that'd be pretty unique, at least in the Northeast US.

Right! Boston (104.1), White Plains (103.9), New York City (104.3) and Riverhead (103.9)! I always remembered getting a signal from 104.1 FM off and on to about Exit 20 of I-84 in New York...heading west, of course. I never checked on the signal heading north towards Springfield.

Doesn't Clear Channel own quite a few out west? Of course, those would be Mexican musical formats rather than the tropical that dominate here in the Northeast.
