Anyone know anything about WMSP Sports Radio 740 in Montgomery moving to the FM, 107.5 frequency?

That would be pretty newsworthy, considering that's where Al Stroh's "The Ticket" resides!

Yes, 107.5 is definitely "The Ticket" simulcasting 1210 AM during the day (and replacing it at night of course, thanks to 1210 AM in Philadelphia). However, listening to the Ticket, I am surprised to hear an increasing number of commercial spots voiced by Greg Budell, of Bluewater fame (the 96.1 Morning Show and his talk show afternoons on 107.9). If you didn't know any better, (and missed the legal IDs), you'd swear it was a Bluewater station.

With 740 realizing their mistake of shifting the college bowl radio coverage over to 1410 AM (and midway through the bowl season managing to get the ESPN bowl broadcasts at the same time), maybe the other two sports outlets are taking a toll. 740's signal at night has gotten crappy, and it's not uncommon for either KRMG Tulsa or KTRH Houston to simply overtake them as close as the Eastern Bypass, especially after midnight. I think they need to find a home on FM somewhere, and soon. It would be a perfect fit for the 93.1 allocation, but Cumulus is at their station max.

I checked, and The Ticket is still at 107.5. I'm not sure what the person was talking about that emailed me. Maybe they meant 107.1 or some other frequency. WMSP could still be rebroadcast on FM if the translator was owned by someone else...like the Haglers.

I believe they have one OK'd for 100.5 FM (W263BX), though it's only for 38 watts:

Interesting that it got through with the primary station being listed on the filing as WDJR Enterprise. 96.9 broadcasts from down south of the Florida state line!

I thought that an FM rebroadcast had to be within the primary station's protected contour?

(Yes I realize this all can be changed on a whim, but if it's the rule it shouldn't have been granted without a different station on the APP. It was previously WTGZ Tuskegee.)

20 years ago 96.9 in Enterprise could reach Montgomery, Pensacola, Tallahassee...
They were one hell of a Rocker for a few years there. We were all sad when they went country, even though it was a fringe station.

But it's not 1990 anymore is it?

I believe I read a previous post that this 100.5 translator application had been moving through the system for 20+ years and just now got final approval. Ring a bell?

The translator ownership rule does not apply to those that rebroadcast AM stations. So Cumulus could in fact own the translator and add one to their cluster without going over it's market ownership limit.
