WMST Mt Sterling

I have to give props because they are a good sounding radio station. Their daytime signal is amazing as is their processing that includes a spice of reverb. The programming is mostly satellite delivered AC/standards and there is an abundance of local advertising. Their sister FM was sold a dozen years ago now focusing on Lexington. My guess is they took the money and invested in the AM.

It's just nice to hear an operator doing something good instead of the ones that have to be reminded they own an AM.

My wife Jess lived in Mount Stirling when we met and she knew that I collected IDs, so she got me theirs'. Just from that short snippet, I knew the station was doing something right. As you said, glad to hear somebody doing it right on AM, rather than them having to be reminded they own one. Also, it's rare, to say the least, to cell an FM, then concentrate on the AM, but I LIKE IT!

I like this station. It throws a good (daytime) signal into western Franklin/eastern Shelby counties. A little bit of history on how they got to where they are today. Back in the day, the AM and FM were sold together to a guy who upgraded the FM to what it is today. That owner's sole purpose was to buy the FM station, upgrade it to serve the Lexington market, and then flip it. Which he did. FM is now Clear Channel/Aloha Trust. I think the AM was sold separately back to its employees, or perhaps to another local group. Today it uses DG Adult Standards as its wallpaper behind local programming 6-11 am, 12-1 pm, and 5-6 pm, plus local sports and other inserts. It's part of a regional network of stations serving Mt. Sterling, Owingsville, and Morehead. It's a good product that shows you can still make this work if you try.

Thanks for the history lesson! As I stated above, I LIKE IT! Glad they use the satellite programming as a fill-in, so to speak and not the main thing. I grew up around local stations back in NC. I cut my teeth on that kind of radio and I know it still works, even today! Even though I wasn't the GM or PD when I worked at WCLW, I tried to use the same approach where I could, at least on my shift anyway. LOL! My idea was, give them all the info they need so they won't want to go anywhere else, play the best in Southern Gospel music and preach to them! Yes sir, it works!
