WMTR in Suburban NYC

Not to split hairs, but the topic of this thread revolves around WDHA-FM as it relates to the Modern Rock format and not WMTR-AM which runs an Oldies format... WDHA carries the 2-station cluster and WMTR simply tags along for the ride... WDHA has always been a solid performer in the local area and has a very loyal fan-base in North Jersey.

I worked for Peter Arnow When he sold WMTR & WDHA and purchased WEOW/WKIZ in Key West. I enjoyed working there. He insisted that stations were involved with the community. Since he retired there he wasn't involved with the day to day operations, but had a good management team.

He had some great stories about the stories about the stations. Including one of the first stations to broadcast in stereo and to play compact discs.

I worked there for about a year. He would sell to Clear Channel in the Keys and call it a day.
I remember going for a job interview with Arnow years ago. He was a friend of an acquaintance and I got in to speak with him when I was just starting out. I remember sitting in the lobby (it was slightly after business hours) and hearing WMTR playing through a stereo system. WMTR was AM Stereo at the time. It was as clear as an FM and was running through a receiver sitting there. I was amazed.

Nice man. Didn't really have anything I was qualified for at the time, but he gave me some very good advice.

I just did a search for his name to see what he is up to. He passed away last month. 😢 I'm surprised that his obituary doesn't mention he fantastic radio career.

Wrong person. Pete is still living in Key West. He is writing and taking photos for a local publication.
