WMT's Jim Doyne

He was restless.

Jim has no loyalties, and was going to get axed at KMRY for his lack of commitment.

A couple of years ago WMT began to broadcast the Viking games in Jim's traditional Sunday time slot. He tried to find a home again and recently returned to the station with his same show (which was on KMRY).

Has anyone seen the demos for the period? That time period on Sunday has much for potential and I wonder why shows like this cater to a non-growing audience -- seems very niche, limited audience spending strengh etc. Your thoughts please.

He always had a home after leaving WMT which was not for Vikings Football but airing some health show. A couple of weeks after leaving WMT he landed at public radio KCCK-FM working for WMT-AM Alumni Dennis Green then going to work for his former WMT boss Rick Sellers at KMRY-AM as host and sales exec.

His show attracts plenty of ad revenue and loyal listeners who enjoy the classics of the 40s to Mid 60s and his style of presenting that kind of music. I am 40 and enjoy it.

I think it all has to do with selling advertising. Sunday usually isn't a big day for your typical advertisers, regardless of what the rating demos are. So stations go out and find the mom and pop type of businesses and sell them these type of programs. CC wouldn't have expanded Leo Greco's Sunday morning show on WMT until 3pm (7 1/2 hours of Leo each Sunday!) unless there were advertisers.

Dave Franklin's Sunday morning polka show lasted for 40 years on KCRG, even when they were a top 40 station throughout the 70s, because it had a lot of sponsors.
And of course, the program lives on at KMRY today for the same reason.

Thanks for your thoughts. I suspect a generational change is also ocurring where those who grew up with that music of the 30s-40s-50s-60s are now in later stages of life and seek this format. However from a corporate perspective the time can be more profitable by seeking audiences with greater spending power. The balance factor here is "the weekend" where audiences are fleeting during the day but may be patternable during early morn and late day. Its all fascinating.
