WMUU

Salem already owns WORD-FM in Pittsburgh PA on 101.5 FM.
I don't think they'd try it, but I wonder what'd happen if Salem swapped callsigns WMUU-FM with WORD-FM.
Talk Radio 94.5 WORD (legally WORD-FM) while 106.3 is WYRD.... :D
I've wondered before if Entercom keeps talk on 1330/950 to be able to hold on to the WORD calls for their talk station. Of course, I guess they could continue to call themselves "WORD" without them. What will happen to the legacy WMUU calls? BJU is distancing themselves from radio entirely. I thought they would at least continue to run an online version of the station themselves.

I wonder if this station will have any local talent on it? I really have reservations about it. If they run Salem's typical array of conservative hosts, I don't know how it will make it. 660 has never gotten much attention with them. Mike Gallagher might be their only real attraction, maybe they can get him directly involved with the station, as he is popular around here. There is other non-Salem talent out there, such as Laura Ingraham, Neal Boortz, Clark Howard, Andy Dean, etc., but I don't know if they usually put outside talent on their stations.

Salem struck a deal with a former owner of WORD to use the calls on FM in Pittsburgh in either '90 or '91. That station was the former WNRJ "Energy 104.7," and Salem switched it to beautiful music WEZE-FM for a year or two before launching "The WORD FM." The calls started out on 104.7 and moved to 101.5 after Salem bought WPIT AM/FM from Pyramid a few years later. Salem most likely doesn't have the legal rights to use the WORD-FM calls outside of the Pittsburgh market, though such an issue would have to be handled in the local courts if they were to try to make 94.5 WORD-FM as the FCC doesn't involve itself in rights issues.

If WMUU does re-brand as "Word", I say wonderful. That's what the current "Word" (Entercomm) gets for dumping wonderful heritage calls like WFBC (1330) and WSPA (950). Yeah, yeah, I know those calls still exist on B-93.7 and Magic 98.9, but ONLY once on the hourly ID.

In the case of WSPA, the TV station has them too.
