I had no idea Mr. Wyatt had launched an LPTV down there. What is Martinsville, the Small City Local TV Capital of the Universe? :D Oddly enough, he got a STA to move the Danville-licensed station to Martinsville, only to be told by Adelphia cable that they needed his signal in...Danville! It looks like they got it figured out, tho.

And since, as I recall, you're associated with WGSR "Star 39", can you tell me what Mr. Roark has done with his Martinsville TV operation? It appears he's now on cable 18 as "NewsChannel 18"...does he still actively program it with local stuff, or are you guys doing that down in Reidsville?

WYAT-TV 40 basically rebroadcasts a satellite feed called "FamilyNet". It's live for an evening newscast and talk show, both of which are repeated in the early morning.

It would appear so. There are three of them operating there.

They did. What happened there, several years ago Wyatt bought a failed Ch. 55 in Martinsville and put it back on the air. Trouble is, he didn't know that the station failed because of adjacent stations that put just enough signal in Henry County to aggrevate viewers into avoiding the station. Then, the Ch. 55 didn't have must-carry even on the home system.

Last year, he managed to get a better signal. Ch. 40 was a failed LPTV in Danville. Wyatt got it very cheap, then got the STA. 40 DID have must-carry on Adelphia in Danville, and agreed to allow the station back on both Danville and Martinsville areas.

Because of his Martinsville connections, Wyatt got the STA and just made a change in the transmitter to go to 40. At the same time, Adelphia decided to stream its operations by making the Martinsville head-end a slave to Danville, and moving all of the receiving and originating equipment off of Hollywood Mountain. That put Adelphia's head-end once again out of reach of his station.

Eventually, they got a tuned antenna in Danville and WYAT-40 joined Adelphia's cable lineup back in April.

NewsChannel 18 is still there. They produce Martinsville content on Hollywood Mountain. We produce Danville and North Carolina content out of Reidsville. We air their newscast on WGSR "Star-39" at 5:00 Daily, then our Carolina news rolls at 6, and then Danville News at 7.

We air a talk show, "Piedmont Primetime" weeknights at 8:00. At that point, NewsChannel 18 goes into recycle mode for 10 hours, only interrupted for pre-sold programs (some religious, some not) and an hour-long AM show.

At 9:00pm, Star-39 airs it prime-time syndicated programming fare until 11:00pm when the Danville news/talk hour is replayed. Then 39 goes through a recycle of the 5-11pm programs until 6:00am when we become your basic local/national syndicated independent station 'til 5 pm, when it all begins again.

Both stations are doing local news reporting. The biggest difference in the programming between Star-39 and NewsChannel 18 is that we carry lots of syndicated entertainment programs and sports. We do a few old-time TV shows and a movie or two every week on 39, plus we carry the Baltimore Orioles, College Football and Basketball, Racing news shows, cooking shows and the ever-present infomercials.

WGSR is basically what you would expect of an indie, but with extensive local news and telephone talk weekday evenings.

Thanks for asking.

That would be the infamous WSSV-LP which tried to air basically the same stuff (barter) that was airing on WXIV-LP at the time.

Ironically, I did have a connection to WMVA, albeit the FM signal which became WROV-FM and moved it's tower up 220 to Cahas Mountain in Franklin County....

I wonder it they will keep the same call letters for WMVA?
