WMVP Towers

This is for you techy types:

On one of WMVP's new towers in Downers Grove has what appears to be a three element fm antenna side mounted. What could it be?

Can't say for sure, but I would imagine that 94.7FM probably has an emergency/back-up xmtr there since both stations are owned by the same company.

Old Chicago

OK OK

Please provide the list of things that you permit to be discussed on this Board. Let's see:

The return of Tommie Edwards. WOW!
Do you like Landecker? That's earth shaking!
What's happening to 106.3! I can barely hear the station....

Here is something that might have an impact on the market: CCC is looking to get ride of either all or a goodly number of their stations and.or markets. (Didn't you know that is happening? Oh, I see you don't read the Wall Street Journal.) Never the less, how might this affect their holdings in Chicago? As an investor, I'd like to see them dump their AM properties here. ???

Hmm...interesting.

If it's for WZZN, it's not licensed. I couldn't find any information about an FM licensed to operate from that tower. I don't think that would be a suitable place for WZZN to have an aux because it probably wouldn't be able to sufficiently cover the city of license.

What I did find interesting is that CBS setup the WXRT studios on Belmont to be the backup for all their FM stations, and aside from CBS only WNUA and WBEZ have backup facilities at another location.

WDRV's aux is on Hancock with main at the Amoco building.

WNUA has their backup on the Sears Tower with the primary on the John Hancock. WBEZ for some reason decided to put their backup along side their primary antenna on the John Hancock. It might run on reduced power, but it doesn't make sense to have the backup at the same site. If for some rare case the John Hancock were destroyed, both the primary & backup are gone. Just like for TV, ch 9 & 50 have both their digital primary & backup on the Sears Tower, with ch. 50 also having their analog primary & backup on the Sears Tower as well. At least WVAZ has their antenna away from the downtown area. Their backup is on the Midland building at 16th & Western.
