Former WMWM DJ Keith Knight is well known in the alternative/underground community for
comic strips like "The K Chronicles" and his current (actually syndicated to regular papers,
like the Boston Herald) "Knight Life". He's worked for ESPN the Magazine and last summer
while in San Francisco, I saw an entire ROOM devoted to the Malden native's work at the
Cartoon Art Museum (655 Mission).
Yesterday's strip in the Herald was called "My Days in College Radio" and it showed a program
dir. for his station (read: "WMWM Salem State") complaining about his choice of music
(attn Rapking: Rap! He did work for a group called the Marginal Prophets I believe). But
"Keef" replies that the show just BEFORE him was nothing but "the sounds of animals mating".
A microphone is drawn into one panel, and it says "WM" with a "squared" after it (We used
to have bumper stickers that basically said "WM squared", (WM)2
Keith left WMWM in Jan of '89, I believe, and yours truly moved into his Sun 12-3 pm slot
with The Juke Joint (another former WMWM-er gone to the funny pages is Mark Parisi, from my class of '84,
aka "Off The Mark".)
I don't think the strip has show up on his site yet. There may be more...I haven't grabbed today's
Herald yet.
The strip apparently appears one week later online, so check back next Monday on his site.
Example of Keef's work:
