WMWM's Doug Mascott passes away

Word comes via his friend Rev John Tamilio that WMWM DJ Doug Mascott (on since 1999; also had been at WNSH) has passed away, a couple weeks before he would have turned 50. Mascott was host of Trax of the Town,a Sunday morning local band showcase, and he helped local musicians and charities. I have known him since 99 and am heartbroken. He was a real character, full of joie de vivre and he loved helping others.

Details on services to follow. Doug had various health issues and a couple weeks ago cracked a rib; he later fell unconcious and it was found he had a lung infection, blood poisoning, and his kidneys had shut down. After being stable for awhile
things took a turn for the worse. I will miss you Doug and your spirit lives on in all who knew you. 1964-2014.

But I sound handsome on the air. That pic was taken with this smartphone at the Salem Children's Charity benefit at Vic Station last Dec. We may do a scholarship fund in Doug's name.

Thanks, started by Rev John Tamilio who has offered prayers during the show. Also Salem News says longtime WESX figure Norm Durkee passed on, Feb 28

Doug Mascott's sister, Wendy, sent the following text regarding his funeral: "funeral will be 10 am Monday at temple [Emanu-El in Marblehead]." Details will be posted here as they become available. Thanks to everyone for sharing such lovely memories of Doug! (AND: afterward, burial at Waterside Cem in Marblehead)

RIP Doug

I just fund out this AM Doug had passed on. Had been several years since I last spoke with him. One of the funniest things about him was his "anti Christmas Music" show he did. I Hosted "Christmas At My House" on WNSH-1570 for many years and one year he wanted to "interrupt" the show to do his Anti Christmas music. As I had bought the time on WNSH I wouldn't let him. He was a character and I know he will be missed. RIP Doug and never let the music die.
