WMXI Laurel

I see they have intentions to move to 107.1. What will become of 98.1 once the move to 107.1 is made? I know all of this is contingent on 103.7’s move to the New Orleans market.

Hey all -

The 98.1 FM allocation attached to WMXI would become an allocation associated with 107.1 FM, so the spectrum is completely freed up once that station makes its frequency change. After the FCC grants WMXI's license to cover application for 107.1 FM and the station has been on the air for awhile on the new channel, someone could apply for a new allocation on 98.1 FM and participate in the FCC's petition for rulemaking process. If the allotment were approved, then it would be included in a future FCC auction pool, and one would have to have the highest bid during that event. The FCC has lost its spectrum auction authority at the moment, however, so that does muddy the picture quite a bit.

Thanks!

Well it would make since if WCPR 97.9 FM in Gulfport/Biloxi increase it’s power or relocate its tower to one of big ones like at WZNF 95.3 FM tower in McHenry area to give 97.9 CPR a bigger signal in the area. But it probably won’t happen.
