So what's the verdict on Bruce Kelly replacing Rick Shaw? Thumbs up or down? How does he sound?

The official word on Bruce is "NOBODY CARES AT ALL"......

I think the "nobody cares at all" has more to do with other things rather than Bruce himself.

I'll try not to get on a soapbox here but the reality is formats like Majic are not the ones getting the attention. Not being trendy or hot or having an audience who would rather just listen to the station rather than comment on it is the way it goes. Oldies formats have often been the step children of the cluster often getting the least FM promotion $$ and many times the most restrictions to what they can play so they don't step on the star attraction - in this case WLYF.

But there is an audience and one that I belive is very underserved in virtually every market. Bruce will do fine in the long run but as in any morning show, time is needed. In some ways, I think Bruce has it tougher than most. Replacing Rick is certainly not easy but Rick is still mentioned on the website with Rick and Donna's question of the day and the hourly PSAs don't, in my humble opinion, help Bruce really establish himself.

If you didn't know what the situation really is, one could almost get the impression Bruce is filling in for Rick. I really don't think Bruce deserves that.

I, too, am troubled by Rick's continued high profile on the station - yes, I know he's still involved with the Children's Fund, but I think this is the time to perhaps back off a little. Bruce is in a tough situation, no doubt about it. I'd like to think one of the reasons Bob Hamilton took so much time was he wanted to get the right guy. My first impressions of Bruce are positive. He's being low key but under the circumstances, I think that's the way to be, not trying to be Rick, Jr and instead, letting the newly re-tooled Magic playlist be the star. Although the Arbitron Gods will be the final judge, I think Magic has done a fabulous job of updating the package.

8) Majic 941 in Greensboro Market with oldies seemed to have a good book even in the Charlotte market!
