WMYI (my 102.5) music

Normally these days if I listen to an AC station I listen to 102.5, but I'm curious....what is their issue with current AC hits? They take an eternity to add them and when they do it seems like they don't get much attention. If I remember, until later last year, they were always on top of the current hits, even playing some the more modern-based Magic wouldn't play.

I understand they want a golder approach to the AC format, but sister stations like Lite/Charlotte and Y/Charleston are very similar, yet they still give the currents proper attention with plenty of the 70s/80s/whatever. It doesn't make much sense.

I still think the station is decent, it just seems like they have been playing the same songs in heavy rotation for a year and aren't giving the newer songs correct attention. You can play one current every hour and not upset the listeners ;)

WMYI-FM MY 102 has the sense to realize that folks don`t want to hear the garbage that is made today!!! Oldies are MUCH better!!! SMART-VERY SMART!!!

I can't say about WMYI but I can tell you on the country side of things in our area. I decided to mix a certain amount of new country music with our traditional country line up on WLRE a few years ago. I had three new songs mixed in every hour sometimes four, no problems. I tried six to eight songs in an hour and that didn't work out so well. Soon we started getting phone calls and getting stoped on the street and told enough is enough, if they wanted to hear newer country music all the time ten times a day then they would listen to a different country station so cut it back. This quickly told me not to exceed more than five newer country songs in an hour and sometime just three depending on whats going on at the time. Another interesting thing I noticed from this was that the complaints came from a lot of different people (a lot) in a wide range of age groups from 12 years old to 88 years old, needless to say I try to keep everything balanced between traditional and newer music on the mix with a 3/4 traditional country 1/4 new country mix. I have had very few complaints since, lesson learned.

the issue I mentioned continues...and the summer ratings show, Magic clobbered them... WMYI needs to update and focus the music and take a page from WLYT in Charlotte, who actually has some variety in their "flashback weekends" and doesn't wear the same 125 70s and 80s songs out every weekend that are already played all week.

Magic 98.9 has been leaning older in the past month or so (with theme weekends spotlighting older music, more 70s and 80s), which could be drawing listeners. They have been unstable for a while, but I think WSPA has settled with a slightly more modern, uptempo sound while mixing in the right amount of older stuff with current hits. Playlist is tight. They sound the way an AC station should sound in 2010, and I have listened to them some lately and enjoyed it. They sounded rough for a while but like I said, have really improved.
