WNBC in the Poconos

I recently saw that WNBC 4 is on Cable in the Poconos in Monroe and Pike Counties PA. Is this true? I find it strange that they would have that station in monroe County because it is not in the NY DMA. ALL the other stations in Monroe County come from Scranton or Philadelphia. I know that Pike county is in the NYC DMA. but i do know some Scranton stations do go to Pike County to cover news there.

Monroe County may be in the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre DMA but is becoming an exurb for NYC and New Jersey. That's why Blue Ridge Cable carries some (not all) of the NYC locals.

DirecTV and Dish Network carry NEPa locals in Monroe County -- no NYC locals.

The cable companies in the poconos carry a lot of NYC and Philly stations. You can also pick them up over the air in many parts of the poconos. Monroe county is in an area where if you go north or east you end up in either NJ or Pike county which is part of the NYC DMA, and if you go south you end up in Northampton County which is part of the Philly DMA. It isn't something unique, many cable companies who service counties that border DMAs carry some locals form neighboring DMAs.

What sucks for Pike county and satellite though is that since they are in the NYC DMA, they only get the NYC stations, but the stations that actually cover their towns are the ones from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. DirecTV was planning to roll out neighboring signifigantly viewed locals, but they have been really slow in implementing it.
