WNBC Subchannels

Out of curiosity, does anyone know why WNBC has a 4.4 subchannel (Universal Sports) but no 4.3 subchannel? Was there ever anything on 4.3? Were they reserving 4.3 for something that never came on the air?

Here in Hartford sister station WVIT has NBC Weather Plus on 30.2 and Universal Sports on 30.3

With LIN-TV's WTNH, their subchanenel Which is Skymax Dopplar Radar is on 8.4 and there is no 8.2 or 8.3

The last information I had on WTNH was that they had an ABC simulcast on 8-3, and the radar was on 59-3. Did that change?

And I don't think there was anything on 4-3. KNBC in Los Angeles had the same setup if they don't still now, and I think they just liked having the whole 4-4 thing. I don't really know.

Back in the WeatherPlus days, WNBC ran 4.4 as a place to throw all their documentary work, occasionally pausing to offer the public the chance to put their short films on the air. One spot that I found pretty funny said it didn't matter which genre..."Drama! Comedy! Dramedy! Documentary! Docu-Dramedy!"

Today's 4.2 is sort of the logical heir to the original 4.4, which was very much branded as "WNBC 4.4". 'Twas a cool branding, but I think New York Non Stop is a better product overall. After a casual Google search, it looks like I never got a chance to experience the period where they coproduced/rebroadcast a number of WNYC/NYC-TV shows in 2006/2007, though.

I don't have an antenna to check, but my mom has an HDTV that is hooked up directly to the cable and in addition to all the channels from COX she gets 3-22 and 24-62 plus 70 and 96 she gets the HD feeds. And on 8.1 is WTNH and on 8.4 is the Skymax Radar which is the same on COX Channel 125 with the Digital Box.

Oh. Cable is not OTA. That explains the discrepancy. =)
