WNC Personality Gone Home

Not directly Charlotte but I am sure a lot of people here may know Ted Calloway.

Ted passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 11th, 2007 after a long illness.

Ted had worked for WSVM in Valdese, WMNC in Morganton, and WSPF in Hickory that I know of, and possibly other stations in the area.

He was a great guy to work with, a hard worker, and a good friend. Over the years he had a hard time with health, and lost his beloved wife 5 years ago in an automobile accident.

If you knew Ted, you had a friend, and knew someone who would have given you the shirt off of his back if he thought you needed it worse than he did.

The family received friends tonight in Morganton, and the Funeral service is tomorrow, September 13th.

This link will probably not be valid more than a few months but it is valid today, and includes a recent picture of Ted.

John, Ted also worked at WHKY radio -- I don't think he was ever on TV. I dropped by WHKY to visit him during an airshift in 1986, I believe. The FM (now WLYT 102.9) was still there but it's days were numbered. The FM was close to or had actually been sold and the Longs were simply keeping the FM on the air until new owners took control...it was simulcasting the AM. He also did some work at WCIS.

I visited Ted in the hospital after that horrific auto accident which killed his wife and her mother several years back. I've never seen such a broken-hearted man, and I'm sure he never got over that until they were reunited a few days ago. God bless Ted's family!

Eric

I worked with Ted at "Channel One Country" (WSPF) in Hickory back in the day. Absolutely one of the nicest men I have ever known. He used to bring a loaf of bread and a pound of bologna to work every day. He is truly going to be missed.

Speaking of WSPF, anyone know what happened to L.A. Freeman and Scott Huff?

I asked the question about Scott Huff (Conley) Is that the same from WSPF? Name is actually Scott Hubbs and I worked with him back in the 60's in Cape Canaveral, Fla. Reply I got that he is somewhere around Granite Falls, NC I'd like to see him too. He was a good friend! BIG APE!
