WNCI Mid-Day

I'll admit there is a bit too much Ryan Seacrest... everywhere. To be honest I haven't listened to WNCI at all after they put Seacrest on. However, that is not because I like or dislike of Seacrest, but actually because I'm not in High School anymore and gravitated to music more in line with my age group. I agree that Andy Clark would be a better choice than Ryan.

I don't understand his appeal. He's very milquetoast and has no detectable personality whatsoever.

Seacrest is not for everyone, but his ratings have consistently held pace with the rest of the radio station (admittedly, even to our surprise). Among Persons 25-54 in the recently released Winter ratings, middays on WNCI had its highest share in more than two years.

Besides if Seacrest wasn't working... I am sure he would be replaced with something else.

WNCI sounds BETTER with the new PD, but overall still sounds like a boring CHR for being in Columbus. I honestly can't wait until June when Sean Cage steps in the building. He's supposed to be taking MD duties and since KKDM is pretty decent music-wise, I look for WNCI to have more of a BANG. Now, with that said, Florentino is still PD so we'll see if he approves for WNCI to have a more KICK-ASS sound. Seacrest is practically on every CC CHR, so there's no point in complaining in that. It is what it is. Sure, anything local would be great. But is Z100 New York City even local for middays? No. All we can pray for is that more changes come to NCI to make it worth listening to. Power 1075 made the mistake of leaning more urban rather than rhythmic. Their ratings have tumbled because of it. They were stealing WNCI listeners, now they're trying to serve the streets, which I can respect. It's obvious Columbus needs a new CHR or Rhythmic. Let 1075 be the Urban. As far as Mix 1079 goes, I respect them for trying to provide a decent Hot AC. And that's what it is, decent. Mix 971 was better... had jingles, and towards the end, leaned CHR. Mix 1079 needs to stop following the roles of corporate and trying to copycat their sister station in Des Moines and give Columbus a WNCI alternative. Kinda how Q102 does with KISS in Cincy.

Do keep in mind that for a variety of reasons (some quite legitimate, some highly questionable), a PD/MD/OM transplanted to Columbus may do a format very differently here than in their previous market.

Yes, but from what I've seen...

Anybody new that enters the CC Columbus building and has something to do with WNCI, doesn't change much. There are some changes made since McCoy left, but not many... it still is a bit repetitive, slow on new music... and it's not because that's the format... it's not. Many stations sound good as CHR including Channel 955/Detroit where McCoy is now. You don't see him eff'ing up that station. Why was WNCI eff'd up? Not to bash McCoy, but most complaints about WNCI came when he was in charge. Repetitive music was the biggest. Florentino is there now and it still sounds pretty repetitive. He's better as a PD. I hope Sean Cage does something. Who knows?? Like I said, when someone new enters, not much changes. Whether WNCI sounds like a KISS FM with a rhythmic lean, or a CHR with a Hot AC lean... it's gonna have listeners. It's the powerhouse. The only other options are Power which is too Urban. And Mix which is too soft. WNCI could get away with sounding like 989 Kiss FM in Louisville who is extremely rhythmic, but beats their mainstream competitor, WDJX. Rhythmic is becoming the new CHR anyway. I think it's stupid for WNCI to keep trying to play the big Hot AC hits first. Why do you think Power 1075 was kicking NCI's ass for a few books? They had control of the rhythmic format. Stupid mistake for them to go Urban...

I've been a listener of WNCI since the Fall of 1990 and they've ALWAYS leaned Hot AC, not counting the period when Dave Robbins took the station AC in '93(It still makes me shudder to this day...the mighty WNCI as a copycat Sunny 95...UGH!). I don't ever look for that to change, especially during the day. Now at night it's anybody's guess whether there will be more Rhythmic sounding stuff or not.
I agree, I am tired of Ryan Seacrest. I think America is slowly getting sick of him being everywhere, and that could be one reason that "American Idol" ratings are down this year. It may take awhile, but the trickle-down effect from people getting sick of him on TV might take awhile longer to translate over to the radio side of things. Seacrest's radio show is OK but nothing spectacular. I really enjoyed Joe Boxer when he did middays on 'NCI, as well as Andy Clarke before him.
It's sad to see WNCI so syndicated...Yeah, the Zoo is broadcast out of Columbus, but it's still basically a syndicated show with a local break here and there, followed by more syndication with Seacrest, then FINALLY a dose of local talent with Chris Davis and then whomever is voice tracking nights from out-of-state. One truly local show on the heritage 175,000 watts rolling across Ohio, WNCI. Sad. :'(

What alan613 said!

Seriously though, WNCI has been pretty lame since the early 90's. The only time WNCI was really any good was when they had competition from 92X.

I don't see WNCI changing for the better anytime soon. Leaning Hot AC and killing songs to death is in their DNA.
