WNCI Playing the Police?

According to the following Dispatch article, Upper Arlington's city council has decided that club Onyx on Henderson Road -- to be renamed Plush -- may remain open only if they promise to avoid "gangsta rap" by playing nothing but music from WNCI's playlist.

I know WNCI has a reputation for sticking with a pretty safe list, but this is ridiculous. Anyone ever heard of such an arrangement before?

Obviously the more the DJ packs the dance floor the more revenue they make but unfortunately the more they pack the dance floor the more trouble they attract. It's a fine line for dance clubs that they crossed way too much and now they're paying for it. They're never going to get the crowd they got before with a watered down top 40 dance mix. It comes with the territory. Some people will even go as far as to say that it's racist but let's keep it real, it is what it is.

I think it's great that the members of the city council now have a club they can go to where they can shake their booties on a regular basis. I live in Arlington and know how hard those people work; they richly deserve all of the nights out that they are now going to be able to enjoy.
As a side note, anyone seeking proof of the lameness of WNCI's playlist need look no further.

WBNS-TV did a story on this last night:

What I mistake for rap music is actually "mainstream rhythmic" according to this NCI GM. So, WNCI pays plays absolutely
no rap music?

From the article link above:
The general manager of WNCI said the station does play what is referred to as "mainstream rhythmic." 10TV examined artists and playlists from both stations and found that many were similar, Mallett reported.

I've never heard of such a thing. Is this even legal? ???
That's exactly what I was wondering. Maybe not. Also, I'd be curious to know how the Tea Party would feel about the UA council's playlist dictate. :)

I think we're getting into semantics here.  E.g., the WNCI spokesperson may just be explaining the the area of musical overlap between NCI and Power.  Also note that "mainstream rhythm" tunes -- even very innocuous ones -- can include some rap.

Thought it was strange (and bad reporting) that the story left the "WNCI GM" nameless.
