WNCX post Maxwell

I just heard Bill Louis (who took the morning shift from Maxwell) announce that Mr. Classic would "take us through the workday".

I don't know if this is permanent, but here's how 98.5 looks in the post Maxwell era (as of now):

6 - 10 a.m. - Bill Louis
10 a.m. - 3 p.m. - Mr. Classic
3 -7 p.m. - Michael Stanley
7 p.m. - 12 a.m. - Paula Balish

Assuming this is full time, it looks like NCX merley stayed in house, and didn't go syndie at all (no Bob and Tom, Free Beer and Hot Wings or VH1 Classic Rock Nights).

I don't think today's lineup is official. Ohio Media Watch mentioned on Twitter that Bill Louis will be back on middays with someone else on mornings on Monday.

OK...let's have some fun.

Who's the new morning host on WNCX?

Keeping in mind it's gonna sound like a local music intensive show.

Or they sign up "Bob & Tom" or "Free Beer and Hot Wings."

My money's on the music-intensive show. Perhaps Paula is called up from nights, and "Mr. Classic" or "VH1 Classic Rock Nights" replaces her in evenings. Or maybe they pair "Mr. Classic" with Sue Czenedes. Hmm.

Anything to protect "Kiley and Booms," with five people on that bad boy (Kevin Kiley, Chuck Booms, producers Tony Mazur and Josh Potter, and update guy Jeff Thomas).

My personal guess is WNCX transitions to an even more music-intensive, less-personality-oriented station...and not renewing expiring jock contracts (especially higher-paid air talent).

As much as I love most of the music...it's primarily 60's & 70's stuff....it is mostly 40-50 year old rock hits and album cuts. The station has an old vibe (for us old guys!).

WNCX' current format doesn't sound like a long, long termer. Just playing out the string.

Hopefully Michael Stanley (and his family/etc.) are OK personally. We wish him the best.

Could it be Michael knows what CBS is doing long-term about NCX (frequency change? jocks or no jocks or few jocks, etc.) and isn't happy about it?

Maybe he senses "the end" of WNCX as it's been and he's not pleased. Just a wild guess.

I sincerely hope it is not serious, regarding Michael Stanley.

As I just posted on Twitter, anyone who asks for private details will be told that we are not delving into his personal life or investigating, and we respect his privacy.

Nathan can certainly do what he wants here and on Twitter/FB/etc., but that is now official OMW policy. I suspect he'd agree, though.

Well, personally I only listened to NCx for Maxwell, so I won't be tuning in anymore. I can't stand but maybe 4 artists they play on there. oh well... guess I'll just have to wait for an update from Dan on their future endeavors.

Anyone know what their non compete clause consists of?

I don't think Michael is being cut loose.

If that were the case, NCX would have probably said something like "he's leaving to persue other interests" and would have made a glowing tribute to him.

It looks (to me anyway) like it might indeed be a health/personal issue.

If it's the case, I hope it's nothing too serious.

The whole Maxwell situation kind of reminds me of when former WMMS afternoon guy Tim Slats was let go (in favor of Maxwell) and landed in the CBS cluster, at what was then 923 Xtreme radio. Much like sticking Maxwell on WNCX, CBS put the right guy on the wrong station. Looks like Slats just got promoted at a station in Florida, but I think a guy like him would be a huge breath of fresh air to a station like NCX either in the mornings or taking over for the apparently departed Michael Stanley. I had to hear Bill Louis this morning tell me about how he got "all choked up" thinking about how East Street Band sax player Clarence Clemons is no longer with us, but felt better when he realized he lives on forever in those songs......huh???

I'd rather I not know what this is about unless Michael actually discloses it - or permitted WNCX to do so. The tenor and terseness of the Bill Louis' statement on their website deeply concerns me to no end, though. It doesn't sound good. I really hope that I am wrong.

I wrote a post for the blog to be put up tomorrow, with the understanding that the Primary(tm) edit or truncate it as needed to fit editorial guidelines.

Given the enormous success of The Lake, I suspect WNCX will go music-intensive in morning drive.

Many classic rock listeners do not like a lot of "blah blah blah blah blah blah" in the morning. 97-1 The Drive in Chicago and, more recently, WCSX in Detroit have fared very well by playing a ton of music in the morning.

Plugging a syndicated show into WNCX's morning slot would be an idiotic move.

So we should expect Bob & Tom? ;D

I agree that music in the morning is the way to go with WNCX, plus with the payroll they are taking on down the dial, I imagine they may just plug any holes with the current staff, depending on how long Michael is out.

Having a guy like Slats come back perhaps is wishful thinking on my part. Used to like him on 'MMS, and he does do a music centered show with little bits sprinkled in. Lots of NASCAR stuff and a delivery I think would go over well with the classic rock crowd here in Cleveland. If he available as Nathan indicated, it'd be nice if NCX at least took a look.

Worked with Tim at WMMS. Great talent. Put him there with Scott Howitt as top pm drivers in NE OH last 25 years. Slats works full time for a resort (golf pro shop) in Orlando and was doing radio on the side. Seriously doubt he'd come back to Cleveland.

And another rumored possibility when the sports talk subject was started, Jeff Kinzbach, probably wouldn't want to come back as well. though he now lives in the area, I don't think CBS could pay him enough to even consider a regular shift there.
