WNEW Fades Away to WWFS.

The historic WNEW call letters are no longer part of New York. Logging onto Yes.com is accepting the WWFS call signs.

Does anyone know when the transition took place?

The WNEW calls faded away years ago - to Bloomberg News Radio.
 
WNEW holds a special place in my family's heart. My mom and dad were big AM fans, and i loved the FM in it's progressive rock days.

However, those calls lost relevance in the last few years. The station started using their various tags (Blink, Mix). The calls merely served as the legal ID.

I STARTED LISTENING WITH THEM IN GRADE SCHOOL LATE 60's EARLY 70's. AND I CONTINUED TO LISTEN UNTIL THE LAST DAY.

WHEN WNEW WENT OFF THE AIR ON DECEMBER 11, 1992, A PART OF ME DIED.

WNEW WAS ALSO THE STATION I DREAMED WORKING AT WITH TED BROWN, WILLIAM B. WILLIAMS AND JONATHAN SCHWARTZ.

Kevin I realized that dream,my mother and father listened to William B.Williams, Klavan and Finch and I got a job there in the news department in 1977 and lasted until 1991 until Westwood blew us all out. I can't even listen to the frequency now, that Bloomberg Radio is a joke :mad:. But WNEW-FM died years ago...going alternative Rock and then having Jerry Garcia die and they couldn't do a proper tribute to him because it wasn't really their format anymore....RIP. :-[
