WNEW HD2

WNEW 102.7 hasn't had any HD subchannels for a while. Now it is carrying LGBTQ focused Channel Q on HD2.
Channel Q is still also on WINS FM 92.3 HD3. But as it seems highly unlikely the same programming will continue to be broadcast on two channels, maybe a new HD channel will be added on one of the two stations.

I doubt anything will replace Channel Q on 92.3-HD3. The quality of the main and HD2 audio will improve if they drop the HD3 entirely.

Channel Q has been on both KNX-HD2 and KRTH-HD2 in Los Angeles for multiple years now. I wouldn't jump to further conclusions yet.

I predict that WNEW-HD2 will be all Christmas soon.
If that was the case, it would've flipped to all-Christmas already. In the past, WNEW HD2 went all-Christmas before Lite-FM did, usually on November 1st. I think Channel Q on WNEW HD2 will be permanent.

Audacy got rid of most of its HD subchannels to save a bit of money, not having to pay ASCAP and BMI for playing music. iHeart dropped many of its HD subchannels as well. But I guess Audacy and iHeart are both committed to their LGBTQ channels.

So while it won't play Smooth Jazz or Christmas music on WNEW-FM-HD2, because those would cost, Audacy is already paying for the music aired on Channel Q. It doesn't cost anything extra to have Channel Q on two NYC subchannels.

Even though Audacy.com continues to have icons devoted to many of its former Smooth Jazz HD subchannels for several markets, NYC's Smooth Jazz 102.7, Houston's KHJZ The Wave, Dallas' The Oasis, San Diego's Smooth Jazz KIFM and Detroit's Smooth Jazz V98.7, they all bring you to the standard Audacy smooth jazz service, "Soundscapes."

Something tells me that Channel Q on both subchannels is just temporary. Either WINS HD3 will get leased or disappears eventually.

It would be great if they ultimately brought back the smooth jazz to HD2
I enjoyed finding Channel Q there this morning but, as I recall, in the past, that's exactly what happened -- Smooth Jazz became a Christmas-themed channel during "the holiday season" and switched back once Christmas was over.

Talkline with Zev Brenner. Programming aimed at the Jewish community.
It had been on one of the HD channels of the former WVIP 93.5, until it was sold.
Its new channel on 102.7 offers a much better signal.
I was (pleasantly) surprised to find this on WNEW 102.7 HD3 today but I suspect that airing this there (instead of what aired there beforehand -- HDRadio.com hasn't yet been updated to reflect this, and it says that this HD3 aired a simultaneous stream of WINS 1010) MIGHT be a brokered move on Audacy's part because, while it'd have been great to have a Jewish Music & Culture channel on NYC HD radio at all, Talkline existed long before it started airing here, and, as its Website notes, airs at least some of its programming elsewhere (AM 620 & some stations outside NYC as well), too.

That leads me to think that maybe Talkline made a deal with Audacy to expand its (Talkline's) reach instead of Audacy doing something else (a Jewish channel that it programmed, or some other programming, instead) on its own.

It is undoubtedly brokered. Audacy is making some amount of money off it, that’s all they care about.

Channel Q on 102.7 HD2 is a duplicate of 92.3 HD3. Not sure why it’s occupying 2 channels. Maybe just keeping it warm until another lessee comes along for 102.7 HD2.
