WNEW Launched @ Noon.... Still NO Direct url

Launched just over an hour ago. DCRTV turned out to be right. They have a clip at their website for the first few minutes. There is still no direct stream.

What does it sound like?
Closer to a 1010 WINS or a KYW than WCBS. Less conversation...more news.

A good competition to WTOP. Seems like a lot of commercials.

I got it via this link (was posted on wikipedia). On now; Joe Pa death; fire in Laurel. (And now a Netflix spot...) I don't know if a direct link to the below is on their site yet, though.

WNEW-FM has been listed on the "Listen Live" section of the CBSDC.com portal for several days now.

And, of course, Radio.com is the in-house streaming service of CBS Radio. That's your best bet listening to the station.

I'm only see and hear advertisement on that radio.com player. No audio from the station.

Obviously they are going through technical gremlins at this hour. In other news, the sky is blue and the grass is green. That's to be expected, and I'd suggest that's why the soft launch took place at noon Sunday instead of 5am Monday.

Erwin, just relax and be patient for once.

There are technical problems on the stream as far as getting in/out of commercial breaks on time with the non-AFTRA ad insertions - this is to be expected on the first days; I'm sure it'll be cleared up soon.

You have come through once again, Paul! Thanks!

By the way, while WNEW is on radio.com, still not the case on their app - though I'm sure that will be rectified soon...

When I tuned in (via stream) on Mon. morning 1/23 from about 4am-5:45am, the audio was pretty good: consistent levels for announcers, clips/actualities, traffic/weather, etc. and no dropouts, just the problem with the ad insertions.

But from 5:45am onward, there's been nothing but problems: dropouts, uneven levels for announcers, clips, traffic/weather, ads, etc. In general, the volume level is too low now. Kinda Merlinesque as in the launches of WEMP NYC + WWWN (now WIQI) Chicago.

Oh well, what're ya gonna do? I hope it'll be fine in a day or two...

Yes, level changes all over the place. Sometimes loud sometimes too soft. It's still soft as we speak. Earlier this morning there was some processing on the stream with a stable sounding stream but for now it sounds like they put it off ???

Dear God, they aren't mentioning "chocolate" in any way, right? If they aren't, it's hardly Merlinesque. :p

'Stream the World' is a complete misnomer for the media player URL since CBS closed off its streams to non-U.S. listeners about a year ago. Turkeys!!

However, WTOP's stream is available around the world, to all listeners. Far superior strategy!!

My quote was taken out of context...I was only referring to the uneven audio levels on the WNEW stream at the time of my posting - which happened to be similar to the streaming (and even on-air) audio problems that occurred in the early days of Merlin's NYC + Chicago stations.

As far as presentation and format: as I mentioned in another post (likely on another thread), the WNEW on-air product is fairly polished and well-executed with good anchors, story selection, etc.
Definitely not Merlinesque in that regard.

As far as cutting off the international streaming of CBS Radio stations:

Don't blame StreamTheWorld - they're only the pipeline through which many broadcasters send their audio streams - some just in a region; some in the U.S.; some around the world.

CBS's decision is based on international fees/royalties (likely along with bandwith charges): http://textpattern.kurthanson.com/a...morrow-cbs-turns-off-all-streaming-outside-us
