Kevin;
I worked at WNEW from August of 2000 until Dec 22, 2006 (the last of the "talk days" folks in programming) and so I have a soft spot for that era.
I have to disagree about it not being "glamorous" (perhaps we define glamor differently). For the audience we were trying to reach at that time, there was plenty of memorable moments to be proud of. I am of the opinion that the day of, and week after, 9/11 was the station's proudest moment, even overshadowing the response and outpouring the day that John Lennon was killed (I listened to that particular broadcast as a kid, and still remember it today).
Perhaps I'm looking at WNEW from a different perspective than you because I was in the building at that time. (I began as one of Ron and Fez's producers, and went on to board opping and commercial production during the course of the various format flips). Because of that perspective, I'm disappointed that our particular era isn't even a blip on the radar of most older WNEW fans. (talk to an early 40's or 30-something guy though, and it's a different story)
