WNIC Format Change

As of 4:00 PM, after a two-hour music test on-air, WNIC has flipped to Hot AC under the "Fresh 100.3" brand, leaving Magic 105.1 as the only mainstream AC station. Wonder what will happen to WDVD in the future...

Nice new webpage too, I'd have to say :)

If you're referring to what's now CIDR it's doing AAA at 93.9 as the River.

Ah. I didn't realize they changed calls and format.

The 93.9-FM Windsor facility has held the CIDR calls since 1993. And they've been "The River," with an AAA format, since September 2006.

Just what Detroit needs... a Mainstream Top 40, a Rhythmic Top 40 and a Adult Top 40 owned by the same company in the same market. Sounds like they want to cover all the bases.

I don't like the new Clear Channel pages they've been releasing. They look like they're copying CBS' recent Wordpress layout.

Don't really understand this move - they had a 4.0 rating (before the Christmas season) vs. WDVD's 4.9 - if they split the Hot AC audience with WDVD, seems like that guarantees lower than a 4.0 for each of the two

Unless this station was already leaning Hot AC, and they don't think their audience is gonna change much

Why did they go from AC to Hot AC? They had the lead over WMGC. Wonder what Greater Media is thinking about this move.

Also this is the 2nd new Fresh station this week. First was in St. Louis with KEZK rebranding as Fresh 102.5 keeping the AC format. Does this Fresh sound like KEZK Fresh 102.5 at all?

WNIC's "Fresh" is more in line with Hot AC than AC.

Fresh in St. Louis is AC to me when I look at their playlist on yes.com. I only see two 70s songs on the list from the last four hours ("If You Leave Me Now" and "The Logical Song"). If I'm not mistaken, they're the only AC in the STL.

I was wondering the same thing, but I read an article explaining that they were planning to keep with the same target audience - I get the impression that they're just evolving (and that that's what they think they're current audience wants) - it's not really a bailout on the format

I'm also guessing that they think they can attract WDVD listeners that don't like hearing the pop stuff that they've added in the past month or so (without losing their current listeners)

I look for this change to lead to a seious drop in their cume w/o a corresponding increasing in AQH%.

Dumb, dumb move. This format will lead them away from their dominance as the top "at work" station.

Looking at WNIC's huge December boost in the PPM's, I wonder if this was too quick of a move to make. Maybe they should've waited until the spring or summer to see what the numbers would like before switching.
