WNIC Format Change

I personally don't think Hot ACs or CHRs should go all-Christmas... it's fine for like AC, oldies and standards stations, but not any other format ;)

WNIC might still go all-Christmas under the Hot AC format, so we'll just have to wait until 2011 and see :p

There are a few hot AC's that did go all-Christmas, including the one in Cleveland that's about to change formats on Monday. The one in Lexington, KY did as well. But given how much success WNIC had with Christmas music, I don't see why they wouldn't do it next Christmas.

no more christmas music for the 100.3 signal in detorit this was the last year

Where did you read that? What would make them not want to go Christmas come next year?

Hot ACs almost never switch to all-Christmas music. I'd be very surprised if WNIC did with its new format as Hot AC.

I have to say that I'm a bit perplexed by this move. Upon reading other people's comments, it sounds like it was perhaps a lousy decision on Clear Channel's part. Despite that, the station does sound good. Actually, it sounds like Hot AC is supposed to sound - unlike WDVD, which sometimes leans a little too rhythmic and sometimes a little too rock for Hot AC. However, this blend of pop/CHR-ish music is oversaturating the Detroit market. For instance, how many stations in Detroit now would likely play Bruno Mars' "Just the Way You Are"? 95.5, 96.3, 98.7, 100.3, 105.1, 106.7... it's just too many stations with this kind of music!

I wonder how Citadel will respond and if it will need to tweak WDVD's format a bit.

The biggest winner in this, at least for the short term, is WMGC. I think a change there may have been in the works and now will be reconsidered. I look for a hiuge shift in cume from WNIC to WMGC in the next quarter.
