WNIR

I heard the start of the Tom Erickson show while driving from Cleveland to Canal Fulton and it leads to me ask, how does WNIR achieve the ratings they have? (and i know its an old audience. If you ask their sales reps to run a ranker and remove persons above 65 they run for hills, they won't do it, it's that bad)

Normally the monologue at the top is used for topic A, but tonight it was a few minutes on the new I voted stickers, followed by, and you can't make this up, a 10 minute promo for his sons reggae band. He then played two songs from their cd. Followed by Stan Piatt on the air from a remote break that lasted, and you wont believe this, 22 Minutes!

I'll say it's because they're the only game in town. WHLO gets better ratings in Canton than Akron, but still gets beat by WHBC there. It really is amazing that a family-owned station like WNIR, without the greatest signal, can go all-local from 5:30am to 11pm and dominate the ratings like they do, they're quite a throwback.
