WNJC-WFYL Simulcast

When did WNJC and WFYL start simulcasting? I heard it this morning for the first time. Actually, their morning show doesn't sound half bad running the standards format. Very well presented. I wonder what they'll be doing the rest of the day?

Rene,
Not sure when they started doing this, but Andy Kortman DOES sound good on 1180. After him, the programming seems to originate from 'FYL's sister station near Boston, WBIX-1060. The audio gets here through an internet bridge installed by a friend of mine, Dana Puopolo, who built WFYL. This Internet connection not only carries program audio, but also has enough bandwidth to handle the transmitter control and metering functions, plus the EAS feeds from KYW and WHYY/MGK.

do you know what kind of equipment they are using? Is it comrex access? Or maybe Barix?

Kortman's shows are brokered (like the Geator, RJ and others). Looks like bought a second affiliate. Smart move. This gives fairly complete coverage of the area and should increase his ad sales. Besides, he's the only outlet for adult standards around here any more.

is wfyl 560 or another number and by the way add me to the brokered shows in radio and tv history i paid for most of my airtime i was wnjc and channel 7 former homes of rj

So is this WNJC/WFYL simulcast only during Kortman, or 24/7?

WFYL only simulcasts Kortman from WNJC in morning drive.

The rest of the week, they pick up programming from owner Alan Langer's National Talk Network, except for Saturday (and perhaps Sunday, but don't quote me on that) when they broker it to Spanish broadcasters.

They also carry George Putnam's "Talkback" from LA. Only the first two hours. They cut hour three for an infomercial. Even so, the guy is a legend and it's good to hear him again. This guy was doing the act Paul Harvey does before Paul Harvey did it and even translated it successfully to TV and talk radio (which Harvey never quite did).
