WNKE / WKBK 1212/1290

I've been out of the area for a while, and decided to look around at old friends in Keene...I was not surpirsed to see Dan Mitchell still talking over the neighbors back yard fence....hokey, but it works!!!

Did I really hear that Big Deal Kevin McNeill still on KNE??? I guess the last time I talked to him, somewhere around '89 he was bluffing about leaving???

What confused me was the flip with the old KBK and KNE AM sticks? Saga purchased all the keene properties?

Anyone fill me in as to what happened etc??

One other followup question-

What is with the bios of the jocks on KNE-FM? Are they really that sicky sweet? I almost got a cavity reading all the stoking? Seriously.

The funny thing is, most of them really are. I've met quite a few doing a small job in the area and they are some of the nicest people in the buisness. Steve Hamel, the PD, is one of the most down to earth and funny people you will meet.

As for what SAGA did moving WKBK to 1290 and changing the call to WZBK, my guess was it was to take WKBK's sucess and move it to the bigger signal of 1290.

Saga is operating 5 stations out of the Stanhope Ave facility,
WKNE-FM, WOQL "Cool 97.7" (The old WINQ), Wink Country 98.7 (The old WOQL),
WKBK 1290 and WZBK 1220. WKNE will be getting a translator soon in Claremont (if not all ready) and have one currently on the air from the country club in Peterborough (on 93.3).

And yes Kevin McNeil is still on KNE!

Re: WNKE / WKBK 1220/1290

The Claremont translator is not on-air yet.

Actually, Kevin moved to Country sister WINQ in January, still in PM drive. Eric Scott replaced him on KNE.

Thanks for the info!! Interestingly enough, I was looking for INQ...I wondered what had happened to it! Ben Parker used to PD that stick back in the day.

How is the SAGA country doing against Y 105? (Is that still around?)

WYRY is still Country but dropped the Y105 handle some time back. The way I hear it, WINQ is kicking 'YRY's butt to here and back. They've got killer prizes and real live jocks, while 'YRY is birdfed after 9 or 10AM.

Re: WNKE / WKBK 1220/1290

I would assume YRY would do better in Brattleboro than Keene??

Not sure. I know zip about Brattleboro, as I haven't been there in maybe a dozen years. Anyone hearing about how the Country battle goes in Brat? Does the painful-sounding WTSA still reign?

Re: WNKE / WKBK 1220/1290

Is INQ live all day? I see a lot of the jocks seems to pull shifts on KNE, KBK and INQ?

TSA-FM was live 24 hours in the early 90's, in fact maria Deluka of KNE fame was there, and from what I see on the website, STILL IS!!! The AM was a birdfed country station with a live AM drive, if I remember correctly.

What ever happpened to Dave Underhill and KVT? I see they are still rocking...

Dude, You should come up for a visit. The Keene area is still one of the nicest areas in New England.

Maria hasn't had a regular airshift on TSA-FM for quite a while, though she does seem to be on quite a few spots. I've heard her doing remotes from time to time.

TSA-AM is birdfeed sports talk 24/7, and has been for a number of years. I remember back in the 80s when AM drive was simulcast on the AM & FM.

Last I heard Dave was in Chicago (this was about 5 years ago). KVT is on their fourth owner (Saga) since Underhill's departure in the early 90s. A couple of years ago, Saga even replaced the eyesore on Williams Street that was home to WKVT since 1959. No more "walking the plank" to pick up prizes!

Yes, it is live until 7pm, then they have Lia in nights. And yes, most of the jocks have shifts on more than 1 station.
