WNMX-FM 106.1

I was really disappointed when 106.1 dropped the heritage WIST calls a number of years ago and went with the "Mix" slogan which I don't think is fitting -- more appropriate for an AC or Hot AC. "WIST" still exists at one of GHB's stations in Thomasville, but the calls are heritage to Charlotte and not the Triad.
My new favorite station. Country Legends 98.3. My new car picks it up better than the old one did and I don't even bother with the mess that is Mix 106 any more.

I've often wondered if Chuck Boozer had anything to do with renaming 106.1 "Mix 106", since he was at "EZ 104" 104.7 WEZC when it changed to Mix 104. ???
Jake Gurley, who was mentioned in another post, switched the station to a chimpanzee-based format during the day for a month in 1997 (yes, that is where I got my name). Okay, maybe a standards-oldies-AC version of what today is called Jack. It didn't make any sense. They showed him the door when that mess was over with after a month.

Every day I am pushed more and more towards satelitte radio...even HD sucks in Charlotte! 3 Spanish FM stations? Really? Really? Why don't they just sell to Greater Media...it can be the beginning of a new cluster

Good competition for WNOW and probably the station who is going to be really affected is 102.3 fm.

We'll see if is true in February.

Sorry, to bring back such an old thread, but I think it's interesting that this speculation happened before they flipped to oldies.

It is indeed interesting. If the rumor mill holds true, we haven't yet seen all the potential players.

Norsan group did a excellent job leasing WNMX. Now they have a better signal and can compete against WNOW. We'll see if the market can afford another fm... good luck for them.
