WNOK definitely needs a total makeover. IT'S EXTREME MAKEOVER: RADIO STATION EDITION!

I think 104.7 WNOK's logo is very outdated and they are still keeping it! They have used their logo they are currently using since 2005!!

Here is the logo from 2005 that they should remove.

105.png

I think their new logo should be like a "KISS-FM" type logo, while retaining their brand as WNOK.

I only know that their sister stations did this and I am going to list them:

KWTX-FM "97.5 FM"

WFMF-FM 102.5

WNCI-FM 97.9

KPLV "My 93.1"

I also think sister station, Star 104.3 in Asheville, NC and My 102.5 in Greenville should also get a makeover.

I really don't think their logo is a big problem, it won't matter with most listeners.
Also keep in mind Kiss 95.1 in Charlotte & WKTU in NYC have had their logo and format since 1996.

OK, I can take Kiss 95.1 in Charlotte, as an exception, they are not owned by CC, but by CBS. And IDK about KTU.

As long as they sound good musically, then the logo is less of an issue. Although perhaps it is indeed time for a makeover regarding the logo, or at least an update. But at first I thought you were talking about a problem with the format or ratings. But WNOK is a long established CHR so it should probably stay that way. If there is any kind of problem, it would be the long standing 104.7 interference issue between Columbia and Charlotte. Reception from Rock Hill south down 77 is problematic as both stations interfere with each other. But in the immediate GSP area, 104.7 from Charlotte is receivable with an indoor rabbit ears antenna, but a weak signal. But get into Laurens County and WNOK will start to overtake and come in.

Even in Union County, though I was on the south end of a hill and 3 miles from the line, I often heard WNOK rather than EZ-104 as it was called then.

Well,...I, for one, and I know that there are plenty more that couldn't give a Rat's Ass, just how long any station uses their Logo. As I recently tooled around Columbia, on a Vinyl Hunt, I noticed the Big problem was the "Burnt", Consultant Approved, playlist. That is more of a serious ailment than any Logo could create, old or new. I scanned the dial, between Piggy Park, and Record Stores....Sheeeeeeeeesh, Columbia Radio is actually worse than Greenville Radio! I had to opt to my thumb-drive, outta self-defense. Awwwwwwwwwwww-ful,....Just Awwwwwwwwww-ful!

New Logo Has Been Up on the Site for a Couple Weeks

Standard iHeart variation on the "new" Kiss/KIIS LA logo.

Thrills may correct me, but WNOK used the black stylized calls superimposed on blue horizontal lines for a least 20 years, if not more. You still occasionally see one of the stickers around. Less and less often, though.

Until RadioDNS is fully implemented and receivers become common, I'm not sure how absolutely critical a "fresh" logo is compared to a constantly contemporary sound on air.

Well at least they got a new logo, now I need to know what font do they use and what the other Kiss-FM stations use (except Kiss 95.1 and Kiss 108 from Melborune, FL and Boston respectively. HAPPY NEW YEAR ;) :D :D

I don't recall when then-Clear Channel changed it, Scott, but it was sometime in the late 2000's early 2010's. Which means that was a 25+ year run, at least.

The font iHeart is using is probably a common sans serif. Right now the trend is towards "flat" designs and more earthy tones. Thank you, Apple.

The purpl-ish/magenta color choice that iHeart is using for WNOK is meh IMHO.

Actually, I think Clear Channel changed the 1983 logo sometime in the early 2000s...certainly before 2005. This would probably be a Thrills question. lol

And to make the timeline of the older logo more murkier, there was ANOTHER logo that WNOK used in 1988-89. This one had a medium to light blue background with yellow lettering. This logo was introduced around the time after the station was sold and Jonathan Rush was brought in to do mornings.

From a personal standpoint, I actually liked this logo MUCH better than the white background with black lettering/blue bars combo. It figures that something that would be a positive in my book gets taken away, and reverted back. *grumble, grumble*

BTW, Even though it's a few days late....Happy New Year, everyone! May 2015 be a good one for all of us.

Yeah, Robin...they had a couple of variations of the 1983 logo. The blue & yellow one you mentioned and a red & black Coca Cola version, too. I think(not entirely sure, tho) the Coke sticker coincided with the WNOK Coca Cola Video Van sponsorship.
