WNOR/WJOI-AM Tower Torn Down

If there was any equipment of value still in the transmitter shack......they were LUCKY!!
Looks like the top section of the tower either JUST missed --- or "nipped" out a corner of the building!!
Gotta wonder if the demolition went "completely as planned"......!;)

Great, now we have an example that vandals can use to drop a tower using a battery powered Harbor Freight angle grinder. Can't wait until the competition between YouTube and Instagram amateur content producers make sport out of dropping towers.

Wow, what a tight little spot for a broadcast tower. That tower had to come down just right, to miss all of the stuff (power lines, etc.) in the area. So a million these days to remove and replace a guyed 540' tower? OK. Either way, Ed Christian can't be happy about that. I wonder if they're going with a self supporter next time? The article mentioned two years in the planning, to bring it down. Wow. How many sleepless nights did the Chief Engineer experience, before that thing came down? If it had been rusting for years, it was probably in poor structural shape. Yuk. I'm glad I'm not the one that had to deal with that headache. More fun to follow, when erecting a new one. Glad no one was injured when it came down.

I can understand the eventual need to replace a tower like that. One of my landlords is using one of these as a mountaintop support for various attachments. He's very careful about how much he allows on it, and has suggested he might also replace it with a solid structure... at some point.

Already been done, many times. WEDO in McKeesport, PA and WCRZ-FM in Flint, Michigan come to mind.
