WNOU...Morning DISASTER

What is going on in the mornings. Today all I heard was "inside" jokes and SCREAMING. I think Nigel should do mornings or even Dylan. Maybe Radio Now should go to "all music" in the morning. How long do you think the mess will be in the morning slot? There has to be someone better that Emmis can find. What do you guys think?

What do "you guys" think? Cannot speak for anyone else, but here is
a piece of advice: take that station off you car buttons. It never ever
has been anything of any value, except maybe when way back in the 70s it
was WNAP, a station that thought it was free form, but really wasn't, however
it was better than anything Indy had. Jim Hilliard knew radio. Jeff
Smulyan does not have a clue.

What do you expect? It's a station that is probably now targeted for
8-12 year old girls. I know because I have one who went to the Santa
Slam show they had last night. Look at the pictures of the audience on
their website. Yeah, this station is going to make a lot of money. :)

Er...Smulyan hired the guy who hired the guy who hired the guy who hires the talent. Smulyan is a CEO, not a PD. The other stations in Indy (HANK, B, WIBC) and the Emmis stations in other markets (NY, LA, etc.) are doing fairly to extremely well. ('NOU has also begun to trend up, BTW.) The book and magazine divisions of Smulyan's company are in excellent stead. TV's gone, which erased a mountain of debt. Maybe he's got just a little shred of a clue, eh?

> No, aside from Nigel, their dj's are terrible, the music is terrible, it is a flat-out turd of a station! I wish Billy Breeze would come back so at least we could have some good, god-faring adultry talk! Marco alone reminds me of "Garth" when he took over "Wayne's World" when Wayne walked out.

When I said he "doesn't have a clue" I was speaking of programming,
entertaining, and creativity. I will give you the fact that his stations
have some rating successes. That his stations make his corporation and
himself good money. But are any of them doing anything other than copying
formats from other towns? Are any of them cutting edge? HANK is
a mix of country recordings...B is what used to be referred to as
MIDDLE OF THE ROAD music, and WIBC, except for a few local shows simply
presents hate radio via Limbaugh and Garrison. The WIBC afternoon
show is embarrassing to listen to, especially when one can easily flip
the car radio dial to WLW and catch Burbank, a true radio pro.
Personally I do not equate financial gain of public airwaves with
success. If one owns several good signals in a market and cannot make
a decent living with them then that is one thing...send the licenses back
to the FCC and let someone else give it a shot. If one owns several
good signals in a market and makes a bunch of bucks but programs
half-heartedly, then so be it...you can call that success.
My idea of success is one who owns good signals in a market, makes a good
living, and programs their stations with professionals, who are
creative, and are given the opportunity to show that creativity. Professionals
who can take a station and make it the one the "whole
town is talking
about". Don Burden did it with WIFE years ago.
Where are the true radio owners now that we need them?
