They took the 102.5 translator off the air so it can move to 93.9 because of signal interference from WNWC/Madison. The AM is still operational though...

I'm not so sure that the AM is still on the air; half of the trades that I read report both the AM and the translator being off, the station's website is down, and the phone number has been disconnected, but refers to another number that goes unanswered.
Keep us updated, would hate to lost the mighty 860 WNOV. Station has been in the urban format since the 1960s I believe though lost much of its identity in recent years in the Magic simulcast.

We should start worrying about WNOV ASAP, since Radio Multi-Media is already in bankruptcy. Already WWPW/Louisville has been taken off the air because they defaulted on LMA payments to WAY-FM, and this doesn't look good. I hate to see WNOV's 46 year heritage come to a abrupt end.
WNOV was a pioneer in playing lot's of rap music in the early 80s. A lot of urban stations were afraid of it at the time..not WNOV they played as much rap as any station in the Midwest. This was back when rap was very fresh and creative..not stale in the least.

Courier Communications (the actual owner of the station) is planning to relaunch WNOV soon. Thing is, Radio Multi-Media (which apparently never consummated the purchase) walked off with some vital station equipment, and Courier had to file for Temporary Silent Authority with the FCC until they could replace it.
Is it for sale? For the right price (and guaranteed money), I'm sure Courier could easily be convinced to wash their hands of the whole thing. But is it worth it?
A second STA(special temporary authority) was filed on 2/24/2012.
This was one again to remain silent. Courier is the owner, equipment was "illegally" taken by the company that was leasing the station, Radio Multi-Media.
Courier will be running the station when it returns.
In the FCC filing, they claim they want the station back on as soon as possible.
Hopefully the station, the AM side will be back soon.
I haven't seen any information about the FM translator, if will be back or not, and on what frequency.
Just for information sake, the AM station must be on to run the FM station. It is not a "regular" FM station, it is a translator, and can not run original programming, it must be a 100% simulcast of the "parent station" WNOV AM.
The only way to come back as an FM only station only is if they lease out one of the major FM stations HD 2 or 3 and run that to feed the translator. That is, at least as of now being done, and the FCC is allowing it.
Clear Channel has been using this to have another "station" when they are up to the limit on stations that can be owned in that market.
To be fair other media companies are doing this also, I shouldn't just say that Clear Channel.
It appears on paper that courier wants WNOV back on.
There is no word on the format though.
Will they come back as the same format?
Maybe someone with connections to the station could comment on that.

This does not mean they will be off that long, they can be off that long legally.
STA's are often extended for long periods of time.
If come January 2013, they can show the problem is beyond their control, they could get an extenstion of that date.
It looks as if they may be off for a while.

You are right, I combined apples and oranges here. They do give extensions to an STA for stations for years sometimes, these are stations that have an STA for reduced power usually,and are broadcasting, just with different power or site, like WSPY AM GENEVA(CHICAGO), IL. they have been running on a long wire for years, when they lost their 4 tower site to a,housing development. As for WNOV, I have not heard anything about their plans, there is not much information about it.

It must be for temporary reasons, but it might be due to FCC reasons so they can keep the license active.
