WNOW (FM)

Has WNOW-FM 105.3 moved to the WBAV tower yet? Any idea when the move is to be completed? I am still getting it well below Greenville/Spartanburg...but then again I get 'BAV well, so I can't tell. Can anyone fill in? Thanks!

WNOW-FM is not going to move to the WBAV tower near Kings mountain. Actually, I think the plan was to to move to another tower adjacent to the WBAV tower on Crowder's Mountain. The Gaston County Commission or their Zoning board turned that plan down for environmental reasons. WNOW then applied to the FCC to move their transmitter to one of the existing tall towers in north Gaston. Apparently such a move would leave the signal too weak to deliver a city grade signal to Gaffney, so WNOW also asked that the COL be changed to Bessemer City. The FCC granted both requests, but I don't believe WNOW has moved to its new location yet. Davidson just sold off a number of it's AM stations, so they should have the capital to move forward with the new facility.

Thanks for the info guys! Their signal now is a monster, at least down my way given the distance from the site.

The construction permit expires on May 3,2009. Are they moving before then?

Z-100 is correct. Upon checking the FCC database, I see where they filed a modification to their CP and will indeed be moving to the WBTV-TV tower north of Gastonia.

They are moving to the CH-3 tower! Should be up there within 2 weeks.

Z100
No relation to WJZR.
You sure? Thank God. Maybe my radio will finally stop "scanning" there in Piedmont.

Yeah, God forbid you might be exposed to something on the radio (if even for a few seconds) you are not familiar with. You certainly wouldn't want to be exposed to something new....

Why would I want to hear something in a foreign tongue I don't understand?

103.9 is serving the Hispanic needs of the upstate area fine. They aren't even showing in the ratings.

96.1 HD-2 Spanish is WAYYYY more than enough Spanish for Charlotte :D

I like the accordion and tuba music whether I can understand the words or not.

One time on the other FM station I heard a funny song with some English. I think it was about an illegal trying to cross the border.

I don't listen to 105.3 often, but turned them on this morning to see if they moved. From over in the eastern Charlotte metro, it appears they have not yet made the switch to WBT's tower. They are listenable (signal wise at least) but are not as strong east as they will be.

Hi,

Perhaps one of you know the answers to my two questions. First, WNOW-AM. Is it up for sale? I'd like to buy it or at least do a LMA.
Do you think they'd sell? I know next to nothing about the owners.

#2. Who is the current "consultant" for Gaston college's WSGE-FM? I spoke with a woman who said she was the GM a couple of weeks ago.
She got really pissy when I asked pointed questions about the station and she hung up on me when I asked who the consultant was.
I thought to myself as I put down the phone, this would make a good bit for Saturday Night Live, if it wasn't so onerous.
Radio has really changed when you can't call the GM and ask a few simple questions. I never left radio, radio left me.

Thanks, I feel better now.
Ok, I'm out of material.

Best regards
pat

PS... I spent the weekend shooting in Miami. I think the Charlotte market as a whole is sounding much better.

Did they ever move? I get about like I get V101 here in the Greenville area, not as strong as it was, at least in the house....but definately listenable.
