WNOW License About to Expire?

FCC records show that 105.3 WNOW's license will expire in a few days, on Dec 1, 2011.
Does that mean that it'll be illegal after that if they don't renew the license?
I can't find anything in the FCC records that says WNOW applied to renew the license, they probably should've by now.

And on the topic of 105.3, are they still licensed to my town of Gaffney?
I know they did apply for a COL change to Bessemer City N.C. a few years ago,
when they moved the site from Rutherford County to Gaston County, but I'm not sure that went through.

In order for them to change the city of license, wouldn't they need to change a different station's COL to Gaffney...
(example, 99.9 in Asheville had to Change it's COL to Old Fort so that 104.3 could move to Asheville in 2005).

Either way, the WBTV site where 105.3 now transmits from is city-grade service to Gaffney I believe,
so maybe they didn't have to change it anyway...wonder if thats the case.

A check of the FCC database shows that they did file for renewal on 8/01/11. That application was accepted on 8/04/11 and was approved on 11/25/11 (Happy Thanksgiving!)...

The City of License is Bessemer City. The reason they did that was to allow for the Control Point to be moved to Charlotte. There is a note in the records that shows they informed the Commission the Control Point moved to Stuart Andrew Blvd. If they had left the COL in Gaffney they would not have been able to legally move the Control Point to Charlotte as it is too far from the COL.

Wow thanks for finding that renewal info, it wasn't updated on fccinfo.com which is usually right up to date with fcc.gov

As for the COL, fccinfo.com, radiolocator.net and even fcc.gov (in the link you posted) still say it's Gaffney,
which is weird and/or very confusing, thats why I mentioned it. But it makes sense to move it to a city closer to the studio.
I believe for a commercial station the studio to transmitter limit is 25 miles (not 100% sure).

But I've seen other cases where that might not even be correct...
96.1 for example is COL to Shelby NC but the studios are in Charlotte, 40 miles away...
Or even better, WMYI is COL to Hendersonville NC, over 30 miles away to their Downtown Greenville SC studio...
and they just moved their transmitter a few months ago to a location that barely gets a city-grade signal into it's own COL. :)

Moving to Bessemer City does not require relicensing another station to Gaffney. Without 105.3, Gaffney still has two licensed stations WFGN 1180 and WZZQ 1500. Changing the COL of WKSF to Old Fort was necessary because moving 104.3 from Old Fort left that community with no licensed station.

Check the FCC record, WNOW-FM is still licensed to Gaffney. They dropped the city of license change to Bessemer City and were able to stay licensed to Gaffney.

Yeah, Kiss FM really makes an effort to serve Old Fort. ::)
