WNOX Moves to 98.9 on July 9, 2010

I just heard the "official" sweeper on Phil Williams' show: As of July 9, 2010, WNOX will move from 100.3 to 98.7.

I'm new to Knoxville and this market, but trying to "catch up" as best I can. From what I understand, Citadel owns 98.7 outright but is LMA'ing 100.3. I'm guessing Citadel's recent financial difficulties explain why they are moving a successful station to what are obviously inferior facilities on the 98.7 C3 allocation.

Fill me in with the rest of the story, if you would be so kind. As my website suggests, I'm a pretty serious "radio geek!"

Short version from another newbie, Citadel LMAed 100.3 from the owner, Citadel missed payments during the bankruptcy, owner filed objection, Citadel paid but the LMA was cancelled. The format goes to a rimshot, the owner retakes the signal.

Wondering how the call letters will move to 98.7. Did JP agree to give them back?

The LMA said that Citadel had to park WOKI and JP would get them back upon termination. Now that the LMA has been torn to shreds, who knows?

Who cares about the call sign? What about the True Oldies Channel?
