WNOX....Sloppy Morning Show

soundsandsports said:
I'm 26 and that's how I feel explaining the mysterious rectangular box I use called a Walkman, so kudos for putting the young whippersnappers in check! BTW, the cassette tape/recorder is probably still in use at some Mom & Pop outfits across the country (not county, but country...how do you expect HS football/basketball on Saturday mornings in some places?)

You can probably hear the difference between digital and vinyl, too. You're welcome on my lawn. Just shout your board name so I'll know it's you and not pull the trigger. Don't bring any dirty hippies with you. And pull your pants up.

Ah, them hippies folks and lowriders are pretty harmless.

I'd would draw the line at allowing CONsultants on your lawn, though. You'd loose your property, even if you owned free and clear.

Most consultants seem to be guys that weren't successful at their own station, and now take money to tell others how to do it right.

Hence the profound adage "Those who can do, while those who cannot teach."

Thanks, now I'll have the "Idol Guy" stuck in my head for the rest of the day!

Two useful definitions:

Hippie: Ok enough, just take a bath and stay the hell off my lawn anyway

Dirty hippie: Thinks he has the right to plant his 'crop' along your tree line. If they don't understand that you're serious, it will take a couple cheeks of shotgun-delivered rock salt to establish your property rights.

And those unable to do or teach...have ruined radio.

Hey Tibbsie! I just read a post of yours on the "election covereage" thread, where you said you "go back to real radio days..." Then, on this thread, you claim radio is ruined.

Would that ruined radio be the "real" (old time) radio, the type that I called predictable? Seems we may agree, after all.

Perhaps you and your significant other are sharing a computer.
All in fun,
Big Bopper

Things started to go downhill about 30 or so years ago. The better-heeled stations started using focus groups and stopped filtering the bad advice from consultants. And that caused them to start making things bland. There's one in every focus group that says they don't like something, and that gets the rest of the group nodding. Next thing you know, it's gone from the station.

Remember when U-102 signed on in '81? Kenny Rogers every 20 minutes: Focus group. Phil Williams spent fifteen minutes of his career there and left about ten seconds after he said "Up next, a Kenny Rogers-free music sweep" one too many times.

Still Sloppy!

Board work will get better it always does.

Sorry...not this time. More dead air and very loose breaks yesterday.
Sound effects for effect were are even cut off instead of faded out behind
Ed and Bob...such as fake applause, etc. Very, Very sloppy. Did they find
some kid out of high school to do this?

Not sure BB, I am to old to remember what the hell I was thinkin/ My guess --- is that overall, I am pissed that few "operators" know how to technically launch a new format that is tight, clean and effective. Instead they look at the last two books and throw something half-@4$$ed at the wall, which does not generally bring any better return. I still hold 100% firm that CONsultants are evil. I take plenty of heat
from em, but they've ruined more revenue chances than they've created, IMHO. They have their limited
place. :) Now as fur old timerz radio, you called that more predictable than today's canned flormats?
I dunno, back then, there was more live and local. But, certainly there was a bunch of junk on the air back then.

I don't know what you are calling FM 100 in terms of real, old, bad and/or ruined. What would ya say??

Always in fun, sir. Never mean any real harm. Those that do, are still on the air, those that did, can't or won't ---post on this board. ;D ;D ;D
