WNOX??

According to latest rating (beauty Contest):

http://www.radio-info.com/markets/knoxville

WOKI with an limited signal is whipping WNOX 2 to 1. I am sure WNOX is making a little $$$ but, Why didn't they go country? Country worked once on the channel. Music programming is cheaper to run than talk. I know that talk radio sells higher than music radio per point but when the station with one of the best FM signals East of the Mississippi is only #9 I have to wonder.

Yeah, I posted this back in July when the book came out and was basically told I was still wrong because WNOX scores well in some demo, still predicting that WOKI will fail, bblah blah blah.

If WNOX is making money, more power to them, but the numbers still show that WOKI is doing more with less and they're still making money. Which for a cluster under Citadel (pre-Cumulus) is saying something.

Yes, BRice, I was one of the people disagreeing with you. Figuring that Citadel had made too many horrible mistakes, and that the people at 100.3 were leaner and more knowledgeable about this market, it seemed as though Citadel was going to abandon its expensive programming.

Both parties lost, but WNOX lost bigger.

And I think WNOX continues to lose going forward. They lost the big name in the afternoon when Dave Hooker left, now 1180 is coming with a strong show from 3-5 and the firmly entrenched show on 990/99.1 is still going strong.

I was told, but can't swear to its accuracy, that South Central extended their deal for 94.3 this summer, which kills the thought that Pirkle was going to reclaim it to sell with WNOX.

Disappointed that WNOX dropped their Westwood One NFL coverage on Sundays.

South Central's deal for 94.3 has always had a termination date in late 2013.

Ah, it was reported here and elsewhere that it had been July 1, 2011. Thanks for clearing that up.

You're welcome on the date. I would agree with you that Pirkle will look to get 94.3 back and put it together with 100.3 to sell. The two make an attractive package for someone to come in and operate against the exsisting groups on a competitive basis.

Helloo Babies!

I believe the ratings info cited by second choice is a little out of date (Spring 2011 IIRC).

Since then, there have been 2 Arbitrends cycles, which were embargoed by the 3 subscribing clusters, to keep them from public view. The summer book will be out in about a month (October?).

We must remember that WOKI's shares are almost all their total audience, due to power constraints, and WNOX's metro shares have historically represented about half their total audience. So, the "2 to 1" math does not hold up when calculating total audience (reach) for the purpose of buying advertising. WNOX's revenue success indicates that the buyers must know more about ratings than some people who post on message boards.

Just saying......

Just supposing Cumulus, now in possession of the Knoxville cluster, makes the Pirkles a new LMA offer for 100.3?

If you were Lew Dickey, how motivated would you be? If you were in his shoes, how tempted would you be to just string them along and keep them programming warm oatmeal as long as possible?

Or Ed could go back (with or without JP.) That place could use a GM, and the pickins ain't so great within.

Rumors are floating around about a major capital expenditure at this station: Word is that Johnny's chair isn't working properly and he couldn't find a trade for a roll of duct tape.

This rumor proved to be incorrect. He had a roll of duct tape from the 1990s in his garage.

Here's an idea, maybe they should generate a stunt reel like Citadel did in July 2010 and play big band music, Bill Clinton speeches, Cas Walker rants, World's Fair news reports, and the Waltons theme song. Then they may see a spike in their ratings and TSL.

OR...perhaps the return of the radio soap opera or evening drama program, starring Johnny Pirkle, the big bad wolf of Northshore Bend, going after the three little pigs on Sharps Ridge, Amherst Road, and Old Kingston Pike

On Sunday, while driving through Knoxville, WNOX was pure crap-ola. The Terry Fair sports show was amatuerish and almost unlistenable. Couldn't take more than 20 minutes of that... TERRIBLE! Just because you are a sports legend doesn't mean that you can instantly sound good as a broadcaster!

And what in the hell is with 5 minutes of Fox News? You put on a crappy local sports show, but can't be bothered to deal with local news on a big signal like this? Nothing going on in Knoxville on the weekend?!! Sheesh!!!

Later on, I checked in and found a real estate show on. Being an investor in real estate myself, I decided to give it a shot. The host explained that a remodeled kitchen is a good selling point for your home... He went on to say that a "budget" kitchen remodel costs about $34,000... a high end kitchen remodel, more like $59,000. Almost drove off the road when a frustrated lady called in to say that she outfitted her kitchen with the best of everything... trouble is, her entire HOUSE is worth about $59,000 she was upside down in her mortgage, and WTF should I do now, Mr. Real Estate Expert?!!

Would have been funny if it wasn't so sad. :-\

The WNOX shills are conspicuously silent these days.
