WNPC AM/FM Sold!

Alright, I'll spill the beans. Word has it that Pete Nininger (Bristol Broadcasting) brought some bags of money to Newport last week. It's a done deal...he bought both stations and has no plans to change them. Apparently, the FM will go up in power and eventually, frequencies will be swapped with Abingdon, VA for power increases, etc. It's a different world boys and girls. Hey at least the distance saved this small town station being another one hijacked to K-town!

booger! (long live the Doctor!)

If that's true, we can expect more bland programming from yet another station in the market.

Not that WNPC was exactly WNBC in its prime, but Bristol isn't going to do anything creative there.

BBC has been trying to do this for years. Actually they wanted Morristown and Newport to just change frequencies and tower locations for money without actually buying the stations. When Wayne Harris was alive, he would have nothing to do with them. But now, the family has found a high-dollar exit strategy.

I would suspect that Bristol will keep them long enough to move every thing around and get their Tri-Cities stuff in shape and then spin off Newport for a lot less than they paid for it.

Don't expect a power increase for WNPC by the way, just Abingdon.

> Why run FUDGE(WFHG)programming all the way down to Newport.
I think Savage, Boortz and Rush is already on the big WNOX-FM
and in Morristown as well. Nininger already goofed moving Electric
to 94.9 thinking he's going to blow the doors off Star 102. I still
can't figure why the sales department has to drive to Morristown to
remote from ET Nissan. I know the same people also own Tri-Cities Nissan.
Oh well, anything to make a dollar. There's a lot of mystery in Nininger's
mind. Maybe he's changing it to Regional Mexican. OOOOH, what a format.
We already have TWO R&B stations here playing the same thing. Hey guys, here's
an ider' The "Tom Joyner Morning Show" instead of white guys trying to sound
black.....
