WNPC changes

Anyone heard of any changes happening at WNPC AM/FM in Newport. I know the FM has a CP to go C3 and move the tower. Are they still "LIVE" in Newport or V.T. out of the Tri Cities? I heard the AM is going to go all gospel. Any truth to that.

Here's the latest:

WNPC-AM 1060 (previously simulcasting with the FM format) has just flipped to all gospel and now carries the call letters WGGP. This is a very smart move for the 1K AM, ending a nearly 20-year simulcast. This now gives Newport three stations.

Not for sure if WNPC-FM has upgraded yet, but I know they are still live out of Newport. I know that mornings, middays and afternoons are live M-F, as they do live time checks, but I don't know about nights and weekends.

I highly doubt that this station will become voice-tracked out of Bristol. Even if they do, the new coverage area given under their construction permit does not reach the Tri-cities. It does give a slightly greater coverage area, deeper into Greene County, with opportunities to market into Greeneville and Morristown. It will probably remain a regional station with a small town sound.
