WNPC Changes..

I noticed that WNPC-FM has changed it's calls to WLNQ and the AM in Newport has switched calls back to WNPC and is simulcasting on the translator. Anyone have any ideas on what Bristol Broadcasting has planned. I know the tower is up near Morristown for the new 104.7 but haven't heard a launch date or what their plans are as far as format for this station.

It looks like they have dropped the solid gospel format on 1060 AM and are now doing country as WNPC AM and 92.3 FM.
No word or idea what is going to be put on 104.7 WLNQ.

According to the FCC, the new calls (WLNQ) replaced WNPC-FM on March 1. Is 92.9 currently dark - until the migration to 104.7? I looked on WNPC's website, through their news archives, etc - I can't find anything that would indicate they directed their listeners to change their dial from 92.9 to 92.3. I also cannot find a news story in the online edition of the local paper about the change. At least from surfing the web, there appears to be a lack of promotion of the frequency change. I am way out of earshot of the station, so I would guess they feel their on-air notifications of the frequency change are sufficient. Bristol Broadcasting has done an excellent job of scrubbing any references to "92.9" from the website - except for staff email addresses which are still "@929wnpc.com" plus the web URL still has "929" in it. I wish a Newport-area listener - or WNPC staffer - would chime in with some insight.

I'm not a staffer or local, but was in the area for a while and they appear to still have the same feed on 92.3, 92.9 and 1060. All on-the-air references are for "92.3 WNPC". Not a single mention of WLNQ or 92.9 or 104.7.

Seems there would be more promotion of the new WLNQ 104.7 and that WNPC 92.3/1060 would get a new URL.

I've a feeling the new 104.7 will have a different format and I predict they will become a Morristown station. It could be that upper management in Bristol is not telling the local staff in Newport anything about what will be on 104.7. If they are still simulcasting on 92.9 (along with 92.3 and the AM) as Elkhosen states, I wonder how their legal ID sounds - I would think it now includes "WLNQ, White Pine"

Interesting. I remember back in the mid to late 1990s, WNPC-AM 1060 was simulcasting WNPC-FM 92.9 as they both aired a country music format. Another interesting sidenote is that they were known as "C93" at the time.

It's my understanding that the Newport pair will also get a call letter change. WELK - The Smokies Best Polka, 24/7. Take it away, Myron!
