WNPT-FM "The Catfish" is now "Jack-FM"

Just taking a break from all the snow fun and listening to the radio. Tuscaloosa's WNPT-FM "The Catfish" has dropped its classic country format for adult hits as "Jack FM".

Anyone know if they are streaming? If so post the link. Thanks.

Here's a link to Jack FM: http://www.jack.fm/ They now have Tuscaloosa listed but the wrong frequency. I'm not sure if they have a stream but you can surf that link and find out. As for WNPT, they don't have a web site right now. The last one they had, is now gone. This site was recently taken down.

Sad to see this station go, Been listening to it (when in the area, or when wx conditions are favorable ) for about 6 years now. It's came a long way since the days of their JRN classic country satellite feed.

No surprise that it would ultimately come out the loser in the battle of the country stations in T-Town. With the Bear and 'TXT in the market, plus the Bull and 'ZZK coming in loud and strong from Birmingham, one wonders how they lasted as long as they did.

In my opinion, the reason Catfish lasted so long is because they catered to a more traditional audience unlike the contemporary mainstream country stations. Most larger cities in AL have a classic country to set them from the rest.

Huntsville has WQAH 105.7, located in an old car garage in Hartselle, and has been going strong for 8 years now. Montgomery has to a certain extent WQSI 93.9 in Auburn, which has a decent signal and is one of my favorite stations around. Anniston has AM 810 WCKA, a 50000 watt station with a weaker counterpart on 100.7 in Lineville. The Shoals have WKZU 104.9 in Iuka MS, and If anyone can fill in the rest you're more than welcome to do so.

I listened to "Catfish" quite a bit, also. I really liked the fact that it was more classic country than anything else. That just leaves WTDR in Talladega for me to listen to for classic country, and I don't get a really good signal from them here in south Shelby county.

I'd have to agree with Charles, though. It was just a matter of time before the fallout began with Tuscaloosa having so many country stations and Birmingham's 'ZZK and the "Bull" being heard there as well. Too many folks wanting a piece of the pie...
